So I left my computer on one night (I know, I wasn't paying attention) and the next morning I could smell what seemed like electrical smells coming from my GPU. Tried playing Metro 2033 and 5 minutes later, my whole computer shuts down and starts back up, but there is no DVI signal. I check the GPU and see the fans twitching. Tried playing again and same thing. Computer shuts down, then no DO signal. I figured the fans burned out. I sent it to EVGA to be repaired since it was still under warranty. Got it back, put it in and tried playing rising storm: Vietnam. 30 minutes later, I got the same issue. Fans are still twitching so I tried running MSI afterburner and watched the fans auto balance and the GPU stays around 47°C. Then I STILL run into the issue.

My question is: anyone dealt with this same issue? Should I send it back to EVGA again and explain that it wasnt fixed?

First of all you need to check your CPU temps as well to see if that is the underlying issue.

AMD Ryzen 9 7950X,  Corsair Mp700 Pro M.2, 64GB Corsair Dominator Titanium DDR5  X670E Steel Legend, MSI RTX 4090 Associate Code: H5U80QBH6BH0AXF. I am NOT an employee of EVGA

Do check the CPU temps are rjohnson11 suggests.

Typically, when a computer shuts down under load it is a power issue. Whether a component is drawing too much power, or just a power supply that has issues supplying enough power.

The easiest way to test is the half-split method: take the 980 and put it into a different computer to test, whether a friend or family member PC that is compatible, even a computer repair shop. If it works - you'll need to test other PC components, and I'd start with the power supply.

Ok, I watched the CPU and GPU temperatures while I was trying to play and they stayed pretty average. CPU would be between 45-55 C and GPU would stay 43-47 C. Still crashed. So maybe its something with the PSU?

I'd lean towards that, but if you can test out the 980 in a different computer to see if it does the same thing you can confirm or deny that the 980 has an issue.
