Why is the 1080Ti Hybrid kit different than the Hybrid cooler used in the 1080Ti Hybrid?

Been out of the country and one of my clients let me know that they ordered the Hybrid, looked into it as I was planning on getting a second card for SLi and I noticed there's now a new mount which is direct copper contact to the memory to cool it...

Why didn't the original kit have some option to add that?

Cost I would guess. And to make a distinction for the EVGA Hybrid model.

    EVGA X99 FTWK / i7 6850K @ 4.5ghz / RTX 3080Ti FTW Ultra / 32GB Corsair LPX 3600mhz / Samsung 850Pro 256GB / Be Quiet BN516 Straight Power 12-1000w 80 Plus Platinum / Window 10 Pro

Great question, and yes EVGA should have included the copper plate to cover the RAM along with the extra TIM pads for the VRAM.  For $160, this is exactly what EVGA should have done to justify the $40 price increase, but alas they did not and just went for the profit/money grab instead.  Also, FYI the copper plate is actually not a new idea anymore as EVGA used the same solution on the GTX1080 FTW Hybrid last year

The original kit was built to support TITANX, but also fit 1080 Ti.

1080 Ti SC2 HYBRID is built for 1080 Ti SC2.

We are planning on making this very available separately in the future however.

Is it just the copper mount or will a whole new kit need to be purchased?

Does that mean that the hybrid kit for FE cards are not going to have copper  plates for the RAM?

They do not have them as of now. The way I read it is EVGA is going to release a kit...which means those of us using the current Hybrid kit for the 1080 Ti would need to redo the entire process to put these on. I guess there might be a few that will spend even more than the $170 or more they already spend on the Hybrid kit.

Only the FTW version had the copper plate for the RAM. I don't think the SC2 version will have that. The current hybrid kit for 1080Ti doesn't have it and the base hybrid kit for non-ftws didn't either.

And none of the cards need it.  Not sure why anyone would be up in arms about not having them

It's always something, if not this then they'd find somethingelse to whine(complain/argue) about.
The cards don't even need the hybrid kit in the first place, although it's nice to have.

Hmm...I don't know about that...Sure need is subjective, but I sure 'needed' a much quieter GPU under load.  As far as the copper plate as a separate kit, I don't see much of a market for existing Hybrid owners and given the existing cost of the Hybrid kit....It just seems odd I guess.

Meh, buy a sticker "Copper plates" and slap it on of the Hybrid cover.  It will give you the same results and you will actually see it every day.  For some reason I thought of the import cars with the performance stickers on the windows to tell everyone whats in it, because you will never see the difference.

Err, what? The FE's were getting above 70-80c which was causing thermal throttling for a lot of people. There's a tangible difference running water cooling w/ the hybrid kit. Plenty of videos showing at STOCK clocks there's no thermal throttling where there was before. Also significantly louder. Room is whisper quiet now.

To clarify, the existing EVGA GTX1080Ti SC2 Hybrid does in fact come with the copper plate that makes direct contact with the VRAM.  Jacob was trying to tell everyone that EVGA plans to sell the same kit that is installed on the GTX1080Ti SC2 Hybrid as a separate kit.  So, yes the GTX1080Ti SC2 Hybrid kit will have the copper plate included.

1070/1080 FTW Hybrid kit also has the copper plate for vram. Not sure if it fits onto 1080 ti FTW3 though.

If you are experiencing thermal throttling, please share it with pictures of a video. Also, thermal throttling is when clocks drop below base and boost clocks.. dynamic overclocking is when the clock "dynamically adjust" to keep thermals under a set temp, while still overclocking your card... basically, you havent seen thermal throttling, you have seen dynamic overclocking which is nowhere near the same. If gpu boost 3.0 is still overclocking your card, then you havent experienced thermal throttling on your card.
