I'm about to change motherboards and since I'm at it I will take apart my 3 year old Titan Blacks and replace VRM and mosfet thermal pads.

I have Heatkiller Blocks so the pads are  what came with it, so now once I reinstall them they will stay in my system for next few years again, unless I'm force to take it apart before that.

Mosfets take 1mm pads and VRMs 0.5mm, I'm trying to get Fujipoly Ultra or premium, but performancepcs is out of stock and might not have it for a while.

Any suggestions on next best thermal pads that will last long and perform well.

Also, how long on average thermal pads last before they start losing their thermal conductivity

Thanks

Thanks a lot. I don't know why I struggle with picking thermal pads , sometimes a little push helps I appreciate  that.
How long thermal pads can last before they became less conductive, do they even need to be replaced. What i do is check temps with laser gun on VRMs and Mosfets every 6-12 months and if temps are the same I assume they are OK. I have so many systems,  some of them I just don't have time to even do regular updates

I like this of them; The Thermal Conductivity amounts to 6.0 W/mK.
Not sure how long, you may need to ask them that question or it may be posted on their site. Arctic

I have consider them, but  when bcavnaugh posted ARCTIC pads I didn't even know they made pads and I   use MX-4  for years and I like it, so this was it for me, already ordered them before I changed my mind again.

Thermal grizzly....is that a new brand, haven't hears much about is until recent.
I might get some for my other systems and compare if there is any difference at all. At this point I care more about longevity, so I don't have to replace them too often, temps.. I think they all might be in close rage, just like with thermal compound.
I can't find anywhere on how long they could last thou

I remember when I was getting my Heatkiller blocks and some extra pads in case I would mess up some during install I asked how long untouched pad (in plastic bag) would last I got an answer from manufacturer ( generic pads) nothing fancy, the once that comes with blocks would last up to 1.5 years, that is shelf life so I would presume good quality thermal pad  that is installed and used would lasts few years, maybe  life of GPU (3-6 years) or longer
If any of you came across on that, please share here

I hear a lot positive comments about Thermal Grizlly pads and thermal paste.
We talk about few dollars and no point saving on such things.

You can grab the Phobya or Alphacool 17w/mk pads from here which are just as good as Fujipoly ,although I prefer Fujipoly too. https://modmymods.com/the...hermal-pads-1-0mm.html

Re: Need help choosing thermal pads 2017/05/17 06:51:04 (permalink)
Alpfhacool seem close in specs to Fujipoly.  I have few systems  that I need to do some maintenance over this summer so never to much of thermal pads.
I wouldn't mind getting some of the Alphacool Ice Thermal Pad - 11W/mK few sheets of it but  the shipping is crazy expensive.

The only way I would get this if the shipping was more reasonable and there is 1 but I'm not sure if I can use it its United State postal Service First-Clas Package International Service $10.50.
I always use FedEx or UPS  and I'm not familiar with this 1. I live in Canada, do you guys know if I could use that service?

I know long time ago and that was 3-4 years ago when I was getting my first Caselabs case I used that service, at the time they had that and because I was in Europe on vacation I didn't care about the time, but it took I think 8 weeks, but now I'm not sure about this service if I can still use it?

Didn't see that they don't have any 0.5mm that changes things I wouldn't pay for shipping just to get part of what I need

Oooo!! Almost forgot I was asking in my very first post how long thermal pads last or if you ever need to change them..I got an answer from ARCTIC. If you use in normal condition, average ambient temps (21-25C) and card its not OC, you never have to change it, it will last for a long time 6-8 years and upwards. If you live in very hot place (India, Australia, Ethiopia ext.) and you OC your card(s) it will still last long time before you might  need to change it (5-7 years) maybe even longer.

Personally I think ARCTIC might be the best choice at least for me and I am not a cheap guy, but considering the price and the temps difference between those and the most expensive thermal pads, there is latterly small margin of the  difference 1-3 C at best.
But what made me lean towards ARCTIC is the amount of reviews that are very positive, very few cons. I already ordered Thermal Grizzly 8 as well so once installed I will have better view on the difference between them.
Thank you guys for your help.

No they are not cheap If there was substantial difference between the less expensive and this Aquacool pads than  that might be worth it, but there isn't much improvement from what I have seen in some of the reviews on the net.
A lot of its marketing hype and brand names, if I got any of it and would see no difference and I'm sure I wouldn't,  it would bug me.

For a long time (years) I have been using Gelid Extreme compound for my CPUs and GPUs with good results, at least for a while, but after few months I know this my temps would creep out, so when I took one  of my systems apart the compound was bone dry and that was  not a fluke I took all my systems  CPUs  apart and they all had the same thing.

Emailed Gelid several times, send pictures, never got response and all new tubes I got (10-15) of compound were nothing but oil on top and bone dry powder on the bottom, they all were stored in cool dark place.

Ever since then I got MX-4  and I love it.  My decision on ARCTIC pads now  is based on many positive feedback from all over the place, but if you didn't post them here I wouldn't even know they are in existence , so thank again, it was good help

The best way to know when to replace the pad would be to monitor the temperature. Make a document and save the temperature and make note of how hot the room is as well. The more you update this the easier it will be to track when the thermal pad starts to lose it's ability to conduct heat as the temperature will start to rise.

Also by knowing the temperature and checking it like monthly you can see how often you might need to clean the computer as temperatures will start to rise.

Use an Associates Code & SAVE 5% - 10% on your purchase. Just click on the associates banner to save, or enter the associates code at checkout on your next purchase. If you choose to use my code I want to personally say "Thank You" for using it.
