I have scoured the interwebs looking for gen 2 type-a cables or adapters to type-c to no avail. Is this another useless tech encumbering my motherboard like SATAe?
Are they really just gen 1 instead? If so, is there an adapter to merge them and make them relevant?
I feel like a major victim of false advertising the more I interact with this board.

The plan will be for Type-C to replace the standard Type-A cable. So I don't feel it will be useless since it does have advantages but at the same time I feel USB is so wide spread that adoption will be kind of slow at the start. In the end it will be good to move to Type-C as it does have the advantage of being reversible.

My understanding is that any "USB3.0" cable is capable of giving you USB3.1 Gen 2 speeds (the move from 3.0 to 3.1 was a change in protocols, they are electrically compatible). I think the reason that you aren't having much luck finding anything is that there is very little device support yet for the 3.1 Gen 2 standard. You would be hard pressed to find any device that can push the 10 Gbps limit. There are devices out there though, for example: https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA7RD3ZS7066&cm_re=usb_3.1_cable_10gbps-_-17-707-405-_-Product This external enclosure would connect to the USB3.1 Gen 2 ports at full speed using a Type-B Micro to Type-A cable. In the mean time, I wouldn't worry about it. The motherboard will probably be long obsolete by the time USB 3.1 Gen 2 devices are using the available bandwidth.

I was thinking of the Type-C connection originally. As for the change from 3.0 to 3.1 the speed isn't really going to be seen. Even though an enclosure might support 10Gpbs the internal drive is probably only hitting about 550MBps.

Thanks for the pointers, everyone. I read somewhere that USB 3.1 gen 2 used all the connections of Type-C. I guess it was a misread. I wonder if 4.0 will. Thunderbolt has USB in the dust. Can't wait for Intel or AMD to give in and supply more PCI-e lanes. They are holding us all back...40 CPU lanes please! Now if only I could use those PCI-e lanes occupied by the SATAe ports for something. :P Edit: Would love a single, solid, dual-port adapter for making to two As into Cs, all i can find are ones for individual ports.

i wish it was 40 on the 1151 cpu's, they only get 16. the upshot is on the z270 they did increase the lanes to 24 over the 20 the z170 had

I can't wait for Type-C to be on more stuff. My phone has used it for over a year, but I still don't see much gear coming out that relies on it. Who knows where we will be in the next ten years, though.
