I stopped folding previously because the software was so buggy that at times it was locking up my system and then the PC wouldn't boot the bios much less into windows. This was without an overclock on the cpu or gpu.

I tried it again this week, worked well for the afternoon until I paused to play games in the evening then when I started folding again at night the software crashed and when it reopened in the fah control panel all my settings were gone and I couldn't configure it at all.

I enjoyed folding but I can't stand the buggy software. I was hoping since I switched to Win10 things would be better but nope.

if one has to follow such convoluted instructions to game for a few hours while also folding a lot less people would fold at all. i game for a few hours a day, while folding on 4 GPU's, pausing only the primary display GPU that is rendering my game, resuming again once done, with no concerns of system stability. if you can not pause and resume work units then there is something amuck with your system, software or hardware.

I'd love to know what it is; I just redid my pc and the only things that are the same are the cpu, gpu, and Motherboard.

the only thing i can say is that F@H is very picky on system stability. what would be perfectly fine for normal and even higher workloads can still cause erratic errors in its folding simulations. sorry it hasn't worked out for you but i do hope you're able to contribute soon once you're able.

Well, I don't know what else to say cause the system is stable. No overclock, no problems with any other program, game, nothing. Be it video rendering, games, office work, whatever. It's a clean install of Win10 on an NVME drive and an updated latest bios, so all I know is FAH doesn't work for me.

Have you looked at your system logs or the FAH logs to see if they can shed some light on the issue?

Something to try would be to run a quick stress test and see how things fair

Can you give a run down of your system??
Windows version, version F@H, GPU, CPU etc.

The F@H log does give you a good place to start.... let us know what you see and we can help you get back Folding again

Add to this CPU cooler if on air and temp monitoring software you are using. And screenshots are always helpful.
We want you on that folding wall, we need you on..........

It's water cooled, cpu stays @ 39C when folding, gpu 37-38C. The logs...I got frustrated and deleted the software off my system. Maybe I'll try it again and check then.

I've had problems in the past dealing with nvidia drivers.  A driver rollback or upgrade resolved those issues.

Also, I've noticed that the gpu workloads complete much much faster than the gpu workloads, so I ended up turning off the cpu work. ymmv

If I recall that is a problem driver for folding on 10xx cards (someone correct me if I'm wrong.) I'd revert to 373.06 (works for me) and see if that works. Then try the newest ones if it does not.

one thing that sucks is that windows 10 will upgrade your graphics driver and not tell you. at least I think it was system update. like others, I have found that the 373.06 driver version works well. I started up my may campaign today and it crashed instantly. checked the driver version and it was 38x.xx something. I certainly didn't do that on purpose. so I just reinstalled 373.06 and away we go.....

Keeping Win 10 from changing your setup or poorly timed reboots does help.

Also during major updates Win 10 installs Nvidia driver poorly - Open GL is missing and you must manually load the Nvidia driver again.

Note if you have 2 GPU SLI gets enabled by default which is not good for Folding, you must manually disable SLI

Make sure to manually setup your GPU for Max performance

Follow best practices when installing F@H or Nvidia driver software:

    1) Get your software & go Offline
    2) All back ground software off including security software - make sure it is still off after reboot if installing more software
    3) Log in as Admin, run software install as Admin
    4) Remove OC software (EVGA Precision or MSI Afterburner), Reboot
    5) DDU to remove old driver - default safe mode, Reboot
    6) Install new Nvidia driver ( I Only use driver & PhysX), Reboot
    7) Reinstall GPU OC software, Reboot
    8) reinstall Folding at home - if need be ( follow first 3 steps if not installing driver) Reboot

Why is this necessary? Or how do I know if I should have done that?

Mostly from passed experiences with NVIDIA Drivers and now with Windows 10 and the Folding Client Software and other Software.
Windows 7 had some of the same problems but nowhere near what Windows 10 has brought to the table.
Each of us find a Pattern that works and works well, but that pattern may not be right for others, as point out above.

Since the problem followed you on two different cards you may want to think about an issue with your power supply.  Folding really sucks the juice.

Windows updated and killed my folding yesterday.
Have to do as above to get it going again, but once it is going it runs for days/weeks stable.
\ I will say CPU folding is the thing i have had crash me out too many times. I dont use the CPU anymore. The meager points werent worth it compared to a 1080Ti running stable for a full day.
