I am getting ready to do an upgrade I guess you could call me an old school gamer my first highend graphic card was a GT6800 nvidia and a pentium 4 was as good as it got I know things have changed a lot back it that day everything was capped at 800 mhz(witout overclocking) I understand that is no longer the case how does the Z270 stock compare the the 800MHZ of old ? or is it 800 mhz and how do you figure it out today

Thanks

Well it is the chip that will determine CPU speed. Which is now GHz not MHz such as the i7 7700K which would be the high end chip for the Z270 at a base clock of 4.2GHz and a max clock of 4.5GHz without overclocking. How does it compare? Its like a top fuel dragster compared to a Model T.

Case - Phanteks Enthoo Evolv X
    Mobo - EVGA X570 FTW
    CPU - AMD Ryzen 9 5900X
    RAM - 32GB Trident Z Royal 3600MHz 14-14-14-34
GPU - EVGA RTX 3080 Ti FTW3 Ultra Gaming
    PSU - Seasonic Prime TX-1000

Things are so much different today that it's hard to compare it to what you remember.

FSB and memory speed used to be the sole way of determining what speed your CPU ran at, unless you bought an unlocked core ($$$).

Now front side bus and memory don't effect overclocking like they did.  You can increase you bus for minimal increases but multiplier's are the main tool.  Of course you need an Intel K series or other unlocked CPU to overclock, but they are much less expensive.

Diatribe explained how before FSB and memory effected cpu speed. now with 270 platform using DDR4 how much will I notice the diffrence 3000 at
Timing 16-18-18-38 and ddr4 3200 at  *Timing 14-14-14-34 ($50 worth of more preformance ) Ill be gaming, photoshop, streaming, Office ect
    Mobo- Asrock Tiachi 270
    cpu I7-7700k
EVGA GTX 1070  SC Black edition
so far I wanna start with 16 gb of DDR4 it will take
    DDR4 3733+(OC)/ 3600(OC)/ 3200(OC)/ 2933(OC)/ 2800(OC)/ 2400*/ 2133  (im looking to stay about 135 or less) any recommendations?

i use corsair vengeance LED, the 16GB 3000mhz kit runs about $120 at newegg, i always have used corsair or crucial top end ram ( dominator or balistx tracer ) but i must say these vengeance sticks are quite good, wish they had temp sensors like dominators and crucial does but other than that they run great. as for the speed goes if you are not running a ram drive or virtual machines dont worry about the fastest speeds as much, you will see very little if any difference in the real world.

if you plan on over clocking you will need the z series of the 270 and a k series cpu, intel even has a i3 7350k dual core with hyper threading now for kaby lake @$175 if you want to save some cash.
the days of fiddling with FSB, strap ratios and all the other tweaks to over clock are gone, kinda makes it to easy now with the correct parts.
