So I upgraded from my nex750g to a g3 1000w. When I first turn on the pc after flipping the switch on the power supply, everything lights up and fans spin for a second then I hear the relay tick, and it all shuts down, then by itself it turns on again and works normally. This didn't happen with my nex750g

This only happens when turning on the system after first plugging into the wall, or flipping the back switch in the PSU off then on. This happened from day one. It's day 7 now. I can still return/exchange it if something is wrong.

Things I've tried. Putting my old psu back in, testing with the self checker (works fine that way), plugging into a different outlet, using the included power cable (it's beefy!!) And waiting two minutes after first plugging on before powering on. I'm stumped.

PC is as follows.
Asus z270 ar
i7 7700k @5.0ghz 1.35v
16gb ddr4 @ 3000mhz
Evga Gtx 1080ti founders
500gb Samsung evo 850
2tb Seagate he's
Hyper 212 with 2 corsair led fans
3 140mm corsair led fans

    Hello,

definitely not an issue to be concerned with. I have had numerous builds where the PSU would click over the voltage relay on first boot and then be fine (usually after having the machine unplugged)

When you say click over, you mean everything turns off like in my case? I'm not too familiar with these terms. Just got off the phone with evga and they said it's probably the power supply.

I've had this happen before too.I consider it normal with some power units.Everything lights up and spins for a second...then off....then fires right up.I wouldn't worry too much about it.

They unit will probably work just fine, if it bugs you too much, request a RMA. I don't remember my evga superNOVA 750w P2 making a noise like that.

Going by my specs do I even need 1000w? I'm going to add an aio cooler to the gpu and cpu.

Nope, 750w is plenty unless you're planning on sli. Since you already have the 1000w it's not necessarily a bad thing either. I have similar spec system w/ 6700k oc to 4.6, 1080ti FE, 32gb ddr4, aio cooler and 3 ssd's and per HWmonitor I'm drawing approx. 450w during gaming.

From what I have seen in videos too, having your P/S drawing about half of its stated size puts the system more in the middle of the efficiency curve were it is most efficient. Most are also silent too then because the fan will not need to turn on because it isn't being hit as hard for its rating.

Well, Thanks everyone for the input.  I decided to exchange it for another one. The new one does the same thing. I wonder if it's my partcular setup that reacts this way. Definitely a quirk. I doubt the second unit is faulty with the exact issue. It's not my system because this didn't happen with the 750w psu or 500w psu I tried in it.  I'm just going to keep this one, I like the idea KiriFate mentioned about staying in the middle of the efficiency curve. Now to play the waiting game on my hybrid cooler for the 1080 ti

Hey everyone, update after a few months. It was my case's power led jumper to the motherboard causing this weird behavior. I took it out by mistake when installing new case fans and an AIO cooler and the problem went away. When I realized my power led was off  I shut do down, plugged the pins on the header, and the problem came back. I was like...nawww..Took the pled off, and problem was gone..I have enough case lights to tell me if my PC is on or off so i just left the power led off. It's all good now.
