It's pretty much dead bruh... it's come and gone before but with different architecture each time; it goes back to the 3Dfx voodoo days.

I'd skip this generation, maybe it will come back in another few years, but until then very few developers are going to support it, and I say "support" lightly.

Pretty much dead. If you have so much monies you have no idea what to do with it, sure, go for it for those few FPS gains. But be warned that it actually slows some games down.

I’d say sli is completely dead. Most 3000 series cards can’t even use sli bridges

SLI is on the way out for gaming.  It has been for quite a while.

You guys realize this post is like 3 years old and he was asking way back then if SLI was dead?  That should be your answer right there.

Doubt it makes a comeback. It requires too much support. A good example of the pain was something I read on the XTAL VR headset. The CEO said something along the lines of it made no sense to support it cause of lack of support and too hard to implement (if my memory serves me right)

I've never seen the point of SLI.  Diminishing returns seem to be the only thing that come from it, pushing exorbitant costs of equipment in return for modest (and sometimes even more miniscule) gains.  Buy as big as you can, single card for the win.  Upgrade when you can afford it to current gen, don't buy more last gen and try to squeeze extra out of it.

I know I'm just echoing what others have said, but I've honestly never been a fan of SLI at all.  Just my opinion though.

Current Build:
Ryzen 9 3900XT
Arctic 420mm AIO
MSI MEG x570 ACE
32 GB Trident Z Neo CL16 3600mhz DDR4
EVGA GTX 980 ACX 2.0
Sabrent Rocket NVMe PCI 4.0 1TB
EVGA Supernova G2 850 Gold
Thermaltake Level 20 XT

Best quote I've ever heard:
Music has always been a matter of energy to me, a question of fuel. Sentimental people call it inspiration, but what they really mean is fuel. I have always needed fuel. I am a serious consumer. On some nights I still believe that a car with the gas needle on empty can run about fifty more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio.

The good thing about SLI and Crossfire dying is that we don't have to spend double, triple, quadruple the money to feel like our build has reached its pinnacle.

IMHO one nice 3440x1440p Ultrawide monitor plus a single powerful gpu is the ideal gaming setup.  Just simple, yet subtle.

Yeeeeeeeeep. Can confirm!!!!
Have the humble AOC CU34G2X which is great for what it is. Ran it with a 2070 Super for the last 6 months, but just upgraded to a 3080 and am now completelyand utterly done. (Well, maybe a new power supply?!)
