Anyone think we'll be able to step up our FE cards to a custom cooler model? I know then Step-Up program is mainly for people wanting to upgrade to the next tier card, but I'd like to see the custom cooler cards like the FTW3 and the SC2 on that list. I would be willing to pay a little extra for the upgraded cooler.

No, you can only do the step-up once, and non-reference cards are rarely, if ever, offered in the step-up program anyway.

In Europe, they'll occasionally add SC cards to the program (for example, the 1080 SC GAMING is currently available for step-up there), but it seems to be different in North America.

So, if I were you, I'd consider these 2 options:
    1. Water cool the FE with something like the EVGA HYBRID Waterblock Cooler (P/N: 400-HY-5388-B1)
    2. Sell the FE and and buy a custom cooler model

i would sell the old and buy a new.
Should be much more fun to install a completly new piece of hardware than mod an "old" one.
