I received a replacement BIOS chip for my FTW, but it's running 2.00 beta. I'd like to flash it to 2.01 to get off of the beta before putting my GPU back in, so that I don't have to take it out again if I need to replace the chip after another bad flash.

Is there any known safe procedure for flashing 2.01? Last time I did it, I flashed from within Windows 10, and ended up with a 0d POST code.

Alternately, if there's a known root cause for all of the bad flashes seen with this revision, so that I can avoid it, that would help as well.

Thanks!

Do the bios installation method instead of the windows method...

    BIOS Installation Method
    • Extract the contents of .zip file to USB flash drive (must be formatted as FAT32)
    • Reboot the machine and go into the system BIOS
    • From the BIOS, navigate to the Save & Exit tab and open "Select BIOS File."
    • Select the .bin file you wish to flash.

I've always updated via USB in the bios. My FTW has gone through every bios from 1.03 up to 2.01, never had a problem with any of them, always worked first time like that.

I've done it that way with many other boards i have had in the 20 years that i have been messing around with computers, never had a failure on any of those either.

Thanks, all! I've never had any trouble with the in-Windows flash until now (or, going further back, flashing from a DOS boot disk), but unless someone posts that they did the in-UEFI flash and wound up bricked, I'll give it a shot later today.

    In Windows flash issues:

    What OS ?
Logged on as Admin and run as Admin ?

were you Offline ? (stops any updates from running & security software needs to be stopped before Flashing BIOS)
    security software off ?
    all background programs stopped ?

I only flash when plugged into a UPS, it would be a bad time for a power glitch

I will never flash from within Windows. Always, ALWAYS, use the USB/in BIOS method.

I bricked my Z170 FTW board while trying to upgrade the bios to 2.01 using Windows, Terrible decision but No one warned me, I did contact EVGA support, awaiting reply.

Updating in Windows can work but when you do so turn off any and all background processes running not essential to system operation. For example, turn off SKYPE, Precision X, MS Office, etc.

AMD Ryzen 9 7950X,  Corsair Mp700 Pro M.2, 64GB Corsair Dominator Titanium DDR5  X670E Steel Legend, MSI RTX 4090 Associate Code: H5U80QBH6BH0AXF. I am NOT an employee of EVGA
