BIOS 1.03/1.02 (Stinger) Updates
- Adds Optane compatibility
- **Do NOT roll back to a previous BIOS with an Optane device in use, it will likely render the OS non-bootable.**
Windows Installation- Download the correct .zip file below for your motherboard:
134-KS-E279-KR - EVGA Z270 Classified-K 132-KS-E277-KR - EVGA Z270 FTW-K 111-KS-E272-KR - EVGA Z270 Stinger- First go into your BIOS and load defaults, save and exit
- Close all open programs.
- Go into the folder where you unzipped this package and update.bat
- Press Y to start the flash process
- DO NOT TURN OFF POWER OR RESET DURING THE FLASH PROCESS
- After the flashing is finished, the system will automatically shut down. Then power on again and go into BIOS to setup.
- NOTE: If flash box immediately closes after flash attempt, the flash may need to be ran from a CMD prompt with administrator privileges or DOS version.
BIOS Installation- Extract the contents of .zip file to USB flash drive (must be formatted as FAT32)
- Reboot the machine and go into the system BIOS
- From the BIOS, navigate to the Save & Exit tab and open "Select BIOS File."
- Select the .bin file you wish to flash.

Cordorb Thanks: Now I have to go read this to know what that is for :-) http://www.anandtech.com/show/11227/intel-launches-optane-memory-m2-cache-ssds-for-client-market
if you are booting from a m.2 nvme drive you wont need it. it does speed sata ssd up a little but really makes a difference if you are using a mechanical hdd as a boot drive, from what i have read it does not boost non boot drives. and at $80 for a 32GB drive you are better off grabbing a entry level nvme drive, i got a intel 600p 500GB nvme for $170, its not the fastest but does way better than a sata ssd (1800 read 650 write 144k iops )

BTW if you change the last part of the url to 103 it downloads E279_flashtool_103.zip

True but for example, on my laptop I run a single 850 EVO in Rapid Mode and it's very fast by itself, however, I run 2x EVO drives in RAID on my Z270 so that's a moot point obviously. However, I agree with your point on an entry level NVME drive if building today.

manual also noted : not to put too much store in the beeps - check the LCD display as well. I get 5 to 8 beeps and one would expect some beeps on a new BIOS start up. does it always beep now on every boot up ?

You should get a beep per USB device ?? or HUB device ? -------------- "sounds like the titanic sending a sos " On my first few boot on my new MB I though it was radio code.

the more connected the more more beeps you get. quirky for sure. you can turn it off in the bios though.
