I can't find XFX's anymore.

Wow..An old thread..If beaconpcguru doesn't answer you and you want a BIOS for an XFX 790i Ultra, you can get them here.

Although I had an EVGA 790i FTW and not an Ultra, some people claim an XFX 790i Ultra BIOS (P08/P09) is better/more stable for the EVGA 790i Ultra..I do not personally know, that's just what some people here in the EVGA forums have claimed and you can read through the posts in the link above too..Flash at your own risk.

I compete in the hwbot.org overclocking league and one of the events I'm in required DDR3 benchmarks but because of a timer bug that can be exploited only Skylake processors are allowed to use Windows 8/10 and out of the two machines I have in my house that I gave to my daughter and the other to my wife they both have Windows 10 on them.

So, you know where I'm going with this, right? I start looking around the house for something to put together and what do I find in the closet buried underneath what looks like a giant computer parts graveyard?

Evga 790i Ultra Sli. QX9650 is still in it with the cooler attached and the Corsair RAM (although sitting in the wrong slots for some reason). It's January 2017... Just plugged the thing into my open testbench and unbelievably looking at the BIOS screen as I write this. Thank God for this thread because I couldn't remember what the hell I should start out with for settings it's been so long.

Point is - I put this thing through so much abuse and then didn't even have the decency to give it away to someone who could use it and here I am in need of some DDR3 benchmarks to help me in my rankings and out of the ashes comes the mighty 790i for one last hooray.

Epic!

Stage 2: Confirming the motherboard's maximum RAM acceptance.
Unfortunately popping in another 2GB or 4GB module just made the motherboard reset the POST procedure continuously. It would beep at the 2b/2d position correctly, and then revert to the beginning of the POST. I can't say for sure whether the board/BIOS is soft-locked at 10GB maximum, but that is a safe assumption. Maybe NVIDIA can shed some light on that.
Adjusting the timings or voltage did not allow for more than 10GB of RAM, and since these 4GB modules are designed for 1600MHz operation I was unable to get them to function at 2GHz in the black slots without a high CAS latency (11-11-11-30).
It is interesting to note the two 4GB modules are functioning perfectly stable and were pretty much plug and play, no configuration being required for stable operation, unless of course you wanted the 1600MHz clock rate, which I was able to run at the recommended settings (9-9-9-24, 1.5v).
Using 4GB modules puts a huge amount of stress on the motherboard. The more RAM is utilized, the hotter the motherboard will get. This isn't quite a problem for most uses, but when benchmarking or running an IBT the SPP's heat will skyrocket.

I was unable to reach 16GB with four 4GB modules.
I was able to reach 10GB with two 4GB modules and a 2GB module (F3-12800CL7Q-8GBRM 2GBx1, F3-12800CL9Q-16GBRL 4GBx2).

The next investigation will feature the F3-16000CL9D-8GBRM (2x4GB) kit, testing whether the 790i is capable of running these modules at the rated 2GHz in the black slots, and then I will test a 10GB configuration with this kit and the  F3-16000CL9D-8GBRM (2x2GB) kit. Obviously if it functions in a 12GB configuration I will report those results too, though seeing from the 790i's response to any more RAM, I doubt that is possible.

The aim of this investigation is to prove whether the 790i is capable of running in the two black slots with 2GHz 4GB modules, optionally with an extra 2GB module, with stable 24/7 operation. Hang around.
So now the RAM has been ordered and should be here by the end of the week.

I just wanted to confirm that on my 790i Ultra EVGA P09 BIOS I can run 16GB of RAM fine (4 x 4GB) with 1 x Graphics card in but have the 10GB max limit when 2 x Graphics Cards used. Flashing with the XFX P09 gets rid of this limit even on 2 x Graphics Cards. Just in case anyone like me was having any issues upgrading to 16GB on their EVGA board reading conflicting things in other forums and hadn't come across this yet :) MASSIVE Thanks to this thread really helped me keep my 790i out of the landfill - love that board! :D

With p10 bios and quadro 4000 run with 16gb (4x4gb) without problem. But when upgrade to gtx 1060 can run only with 8gb (2×4gb). Do you think thath with xfx bios p09 or p10 fix this problem?
Sorry for my english

I wouldn't advise putting a non EVGA BIOs on an EVGA motherboard.

Maybe..Maybe not..People claim they have force flashed an XFX 790i Ultra BIOS to an EVGA 790i Ultra motherboard with success and better memory support..I'm not going to tell you that it won't work, and I'm not going to tell you that it will work..Just be aware that there is risk involved..The XFX P09 BIOS improved GPU and memory compatibility..The XFX P10 BIOS improved CPU compatibility for native 1333 MHz FSB processors (same as the EVGA P10 BIOS does), if I remember correctly.

What CPU do you have?

That's a native 1333 MHz FSB processor..As I said before, I'm not going to tell you that it won't work, and I'm not going to tell you that it will work..Just be aware that there is risk involved..If things go wrong, you may need to buy another BIOS chip somewhere (search eBay or other places online), or buy one from EVGA if they have one or see if they can flash it back (you would need to contact EVGA Support), or put the BIOS chip in another working 790i motherboard and flash it back or have somebody/someplace do it for you..If I was going to try it, I would try the P10 which is for improved CPU compatibility, the P09 may not even support the E5450 and fail to POST..I can't tell you one way or the other what to do, up to you..Good luck.

the xfx and evga boards were both basically nvidia reference boards with the only difference being the name on the board, i dont even think they had a silk screened name on them besides nvidia, just stickers with the part number, they were before evga aquired the talents to design the x58 on their own, i forced flashed a 780i with a xfx bios and it worked perfectly.

Hy!
I received an EVGA 790i Ultra and I try to use it with Q9550 and 8GB RAM 4x2GB DDR3 Mushkin Radioactive 996974 7-9-7 24 timings at 1600mhz and Nvidia Quadro 4000...
I think it came with an old bios (not know which version...) it sees my ram at 1333mhz, 9-9-9 24 at 1.65v~ P1 P2 enabled Linked Sinced..., it not sees XMP on it have been "picky" at my KB on USB (I use an old PS2 KB) not on my mouses USB (Hama Urage MMORPHG) or PS2 (Logitech) is picky also when inserting an AverMedia Dual Hybrid tuner DVB-T ANALOG tuner in 2nd PCI-E 1x ( 1st PCI-E 1x has an USB 3.0 4 ports add in card VIA chip works ok),
other specs : PSU NORTH-Q 800W modular source, 2 IDE ODD DVD-RW, 1 SATA ODD Plextor DVD-RW PA-890SA, some HDD SATA 2 and 3, wit tuner inserted after restart or power down no start up ... I must shut down PSU from back switch 1-2 min and eventually starts...., also same if in any USB is am memory stick, like PARAGON stick with recovery media bootable, or others non bootable...
My idea is to flash it with XFX p09 bios with Dell SLIC 2.1 but I want someone to help me with an modded one in which XFX boot screen logo to be replaced (since is an EVGA board  ) with EVGA boot screen logo image!
Can someone help me with that (is an minor mod an aesthetically one ... but is for my sister and... women's which by  the way is graphic designer will comment.. ) but ... Still it will look better and I think it will fix my nags with tuner board, KB, and see my RAM with XMP profile at 1600mhz and better (orig) timings....
As 790i_P09_XFX_(DELL_SLIC_v2.1).iso to burn it on RW-CD bootable with boot logo modded and replaced in 790i_P09_XFX_(DELL_SLIC_v2.1).rar from:

If necessary I can give as PM my email or post BIOS as link up in the site or here...

Thanks much folks!

This is kind of MAJOR. All the years that went by and no one ever tried a 2 x 4GB memory configuration? Or if it was tried successfully, it wasn't published, or if it was it was buried or edited out as someone just talking gibberish. Is this an omission by eVGA? Misinformation? Or just missed information? I also consider that eVGA supports configurations they have thoroughly tested. If the 2 X 4GB and 4 X 4GB setup has not been tested or not suitably reliable, they elect to not support it, why document unsupported configurations.

I had tried using IE Beta 9 and saw memory usage go WAY up on my 790i Digital PWM. Being only a 4GB of OCZ3P20004GK, I went back to IE8 than look to put in another pair of hard-to-find EOL memory sticks. Now maybe I'll look for  hard-to-find 2 x 4GB and sell off my 2 X 2GB.

Mine works flawlessly with 2 x 4GB DIMMs and with modern software it got really faster that the Intel chipset PC with the same CPU I still have running. The 790i chipset is awesome, allowed a good overclock, and had 60 PCIe lanes!
