Fortunately, your board has a replaceable BIOS chip inside the clamshell holder right below the 24-pin ATX power connector (refer to the Motherboard Layout your mobo manual)..You can contact EVGA in your region about getting another BIOS chip that you can carefully replace yourself if that's what it comes down to.

You can also search "AMI BIOS recovery" online to see how you may be able to recover/flash another BIOS using a CDROM or USB flash drive..If you need to make a flash drive bootable with DOS files, you can use Rufus instead of monkeying around with Windows 98 boot files.

Or you could take it to a PC repair shop that can recover it..Or you can take a BIOS chip out of another Z170 FTW to get you booted/into Windows, then swap your chip back in again and reflash.

First thing I would do though is turn off/unplug the PSU and then remove the CMOS battery for about 10 minutes..Put it back, power up, see how it rolls.

Just a few ideas here.

thanks for the help, can you clear a few things up?

first, I updated the BIOS using Windows bat file method and it failed with a few red lines of errors that i dont remember, followed by F9 error on restart, its under warranty, can EVGA support provide me with a new/refurb Motherboard or bios Chip, I cant solder so no chance or replacing the chip myself

can i Copy the BIOS files to a pen drive and the mobo auto restart the recovery or something, a few MSI boards with f9 error can boot this way?

regarding AMI BIOS recovery,  evga download center gave a .bin file, A batch file for flashing and 2 folders FPTDPS and FPTWIN,

am i right to assume (mobo model) . bin file is the one I will be working with?

The BIOS chip is removable, not soldered in..Open up the clamshell holder to take it out..You can Contact EVGA about sending you another chip.

Sorry I can't help you with an AMI BIOS recovery, never did one, only AWD..If you try recovering the BIOS, I would disconnect all drives so that the only possible drive the board would recognize to try booting from is the flash drive..If you recover from a CD-ROM, disconnect all but the CD-ROM, of course..You can try putting those files in the E177_flashtool on a flash drive and try it, dunno if it'll work that way or not though.

That's about all I can tell you..Good luck.

PH0ENiX, I hope you are able to resolve your issue. At the very least EVGA tech support will be able to help you out. I would always recommend flashing the BIOS from within the BIOS itself. Never from within Windows. EVGA shouldn't even provide an option to flash from Windows because it seems that more times than not it results in this situation.

Hi Phoenix,

You could send an email to support@evga.com and explain your situation.
They will probably ship a bios chip to you for free with the latest bios version and then you have to ship your old one back to them. This would take no longer than 1 week depending on where you live.
When you receive the package, you'll also get instructions on how to remove the old bios and install the new one.

This is where the BIOS chip is located

Here is the instructions for updating BIOS.  Now if you have a Flash drive that is formatted Fat 32 you do the update from UEFI BIOS system.
"BIOS Installation
  • Extract the contents of .zip file to USB flash drive (must be formatted as FAT32)
  • Reboot the machine and go into the system BIOS
  • From the BIOS, navigate to the Save & Exit tab and open "Select BIOS File." This would be on the Flash Drive you copied the BIOS Update file to.
  • Select the .bin file  (on the flash drive)  then follow normal sequence Which I think is use capital "Y" and wait till completed.
Hope this helps/clarifies  for you.

Hi first of all, sorry for lack of follow ups this week I had a lot of work.
I managed to remove the BIOS chip, I replied to your email.
and after reading the other top thread ( cant post links) I suppose Using windows to upgrade BIOS is a terrible decision?

The board in question was purchased from Amazon.com in U.S, I am located in New Delhi (India), My service center will be Taiwan.

Not a terrible decision. The bios installation method is the best/safest option.
