Hey guys,

Could you help me out with the FAN setup for my build?

- Thermaltake Commander MS-I Snow Edition VN40006W2N Mid Tower, comes with a 120MM REAR FAN.
- Z170FTW Motherboard with a mastercooler 120MM blowing air to the rear FAN.
- 1 Asiahorse 120MM PWM FAN set to 60% blowing air into the case from the front and is installed on the SYS1_FAN.
- 1 Asiahorse 120MM PWM FAN, yet to decide where to install this.

I think I'll be able to install the FAN either at the side or at the top. Probably at the side because there's barely enough space at the top.
If there's a chance to fit this at the top, I'll need to switch the CPU FAN on the cooler to the left which is closer to the rear FAN.
Since I have the front one already blowing air in the case would it be good to do the same if the FAN is placed at the side blowing air in on the GPU?

The front FAN was automatically ON DC mode running at 1920RPM but I changed it to PWM and lowered to 60%. Noticed I get less air in the case if I place the front panel back to cover where the FAN is installed...

My EVGA 750 G2 PSU is too large so I won't be able to fit a FAN at the bottom if I wanted to as shown on the image below.
Case sucks but just trying to make it work until I find a better one.

is it possible you can upload a pic of your rig. Rule of thumb is a "push-pull". Referring to the picture you have, here's a very old picture of a rig I had years ago. The "push" came from the rear and the "pull" was on top. I thought it worked out well for a "air" setup. One last comment is; do you have a 3rd party fan controller?

    Nice fan!!
I would get a Corsair water cooled solution however for the cpu in my opinion.
I have a Corsair H100i and it works great with my Intel 6950X in a Cooler Master Cosmos II case and it looks like it would fit nicely in the top of your case.

thanks but as I said; that picture is a VERY, VERY old picture. But can you take picture of your rig? that would help to see what you have going on.

    Hi Encryptred,

Could have uploaded some photos yesterday but couldn't because of this forum only accepting 500kb.
By the way, this morning I've opened up the case and tried to place a FAN on top but that wasn't possible as it covers up the CPU FAN header.
I'm only using the BIOS to change the FAN settings.

    jfw06013,

I'm not looking forward to spend anymore money, therefore I want to try to work something out with what I currently have.

crap...I looked around in my bag of goodies to find some fan controllers I had but couldn't find em. I may have thrown them out. I would've given one to ya. Anyways...just a idea came to mind; How about you install some fans on the outside of the case (on top). Maybe use some white fans to accommodate the case? I dunno. Modding is always fun

Believe it or not, I thought the same thing but have to think it through of course.

For now I have the front & side as intake, the CPU pushing air to the rear FAN which is exhaust. Need to figure out something to place a FAN at the top.
Is 38C a decent temperature for my stock machine on idle using a HyperX 212 evo single fan?
When gaming it might hit ~48-55

yea...your head is in the right place. But I would assume you're not OC'd, yes? if so then that temp is good. Maybe next case should be a Full Tower Nonetheless...game on

ahh the joy of getting proper cooling in a smaller mid tower case, the very reason i went to a full tower, gave me so much room to really balance the system so i get excellent air flow with out all the noise ( i swear i can still hear the 80mm screamers from back in the day ). your temps seem good if you are running them at 60%,

I always advise to get a full tower. Unless....you're a email, FB, Twitter, angry birds...etc. junky.

    Re: [Help]Fan Setup 2017/05/05 19:39:20 (permalink)
So I was messing around with my case and noticed there's 4 screw holes to possibly fit another 120MM FAN at the front.
The second FAN has been installed using just 2 screws but had to remove the front i/o panel where the audio jack & usb ports are.

Knowing the risk of having dust in my case, I decided not to put the front cover of the case.
With the cover, air barely gets in the case to blow inside my machine and could hear the FANS sound no matter what the speed is set to.

    2x120 as intake (Front)
2x120 as exhaust(Rear with CPU included)

    Idling around 36-38C.
