Hello,
I just updated to a new motherboard and a new harddrive. In my previous build, my DVI cable connected to my dell monitor. Now after changing the motherboard and the hard drive, my DVI will not connect to my main monitor. it gives me a blank screen and it still says no display port cable.

thanks,

    Is the 950 new also?
    1) If so, check to see and make sure that the card is fully seated in the slot and locked in.
    2) Does the card require extra power from the power supply to be plugged into the side of the card?

Give us details on what parts are in your build, everything.

    Motherboard:hp 696333-001
    Motherboard BIOS Version:v8.14 12/18/2012
CPU: AMD a8-5500 APU with Radeon TM HD graphics
    GPU: Evga 950
    RAM:16g
    PSU:
HDD: sea gate fire barracuda 2t, 2 secondary drives
    SSD:
    OS: windows 10
Monitor: dell 2408wfp main, second would run off the DVI which is working
    Keyboard: razor Blackwidow
    Mouse: logic tech g5
    CPU Cooler: standard fan cooler
USB Devices printer and a wd hard drive
GPU was purchased in July so not overly old, idk about the age of the motherboard and the CPU, nothing is overclocked

so to clarify It's a Display port from the Evga 950 to a VGA monitor connector. when I switch to the Vga the main screen goes to my background but will not show any of my open windows, nor does it allow me to see any of the files that I have on the desktop view. But I do have my taskbar and I can see all my active tasks in the bar but it will not allow me to see if I try to pull them up. my DVI cable is working. If you need any more information let me know, and thanks for the help so far.

So you're converting a displayport to vga using a adapter? If yes, you may have a faulty adapter.

the Cord I have is at one a display port, and it then has the VGA end on it.  so it doesn't sound like my card is bad?

It could be a faulty dp output. Try using the dp to vga cable in another dp output. If the same issue occurs try a different dp to vga cable.

Is your motherboard bios completely up to date? If you boot into safe mode and uninstall the drivers then reboot into normal windows do you get a display?

Just looked over the thread agian...

Since your DVI port works... either you have a bad dp cable, bad dp input on monitor, or all three dp outputs on your card are burnt out. I'd recommend testing the dp outputs on your card with a different monitor.

My 1st Titab X did this, when it finally gave out.
NONE of the DP ports worked on it. All did the same thing, but then after trying them all and putting back to the 1st one, the card started pixelating at startup, and then just went to a bunch of lines the next day.

Its not unheard of, especially with the fast pace at which dp is growing now, the revisions, the hardware vs software vs cable needed, the number of vendors that will sell 'cheap' .
I would talk to an EVGA tech if its still in warrenty, and see what he says.
Be sure to tell him all the things you have done.

But, Sajin is right, in that you need the right cable, and it should be certified, because cheap cables take shortcuts (the whole 20 pin fiasco, etc).
A reputable cable, bought with the exact part number from a certified site (they test these cables to make sure they are good, so they know from 1st hand experience wether the cable really works or not) is the optimal approach.

My Problem is that this GPU is less than a year old (9 month) I don't run high power games and i have a quite a lot of air through the case and it was working with the display port on my previous build.

And, my titan x ran just fine in the same computer for 6 months, and then all 3 dp ports went out.
    Your point is?

BTW, I have the same exact cable and monitor and machine, and when they sent me a replacement titan x, it worked with the dp port on the card they sent. Sometimes its not the cables, and from 1st hand experience, all 3dp ports can go bad at once.
