Debating on a possible monitor in the near future? Been looking at these, but I'm also out of date on what makes a monitor great.
Any other monitors I should be looking at too with a good price point? I'm kinda leaning on the cheaper TN but I do alot of photo editing where IPS would be nice to have, though watching videos I use my 4k tv above my monitor.
I do have a 1080ti ftw3 on preorder so I would like to put it to work

I do know the 78 is TN and the 79 is IPS

I've been stuck on these 60hz monitors for a long time. Side note, would the monitors play nice if I were to buy another VE278Q to have surround? To have these on the sides? Or would I be noticing some insane difference that would drive me nuts?

I've got a Dell S2716DG and am quite happy with it. Great color for a TN panel and a little bit cheaper than the PG278QR (or a lot cheaper when they have sales).

Why would you want to run a cheap TN panel when you just ordered a 1080ti FTW3? My nephew mentioned to me that a good monitor might be more important than anything else. How many hours do you spend looking at your monitor? Here is a post I just made about my new monitor purchase.

Honestly, the two monitors I've listed(PG278QR vs PG279Q) are so close in quality with both their pros and cons.
Both monitors are 165hz too. I just need someone to justify the extra $ for an IPS when the TN is just as near quality for $200 lesser.

Light bleed not so bad? Maybe he won the IPS lottery :)

Just saying their close on paper, looking for some owners out there.
Maybe I want to try 3d on the TN since IPS doesn't have. Shrugs*

I just got the PG279Q because I wanted IPS color accurate screen for photoshop and the 178 degree viewing angle. 3D sounds nice on paper but manufacturers have stopped making 3D TVs because people really didn't care for it at home, just Google "3d tv". My last monitor had 3D and I only used it to do the lightboost strobe mod.

I don't mind the viewing angle as I'm always in front of it but I am truly interested in photo color quality. Are we talking drastic differences? Any problems with input lag?
I'm not really looking to the 3D thing but if it's an option I might try it lol. I think the world is just headed towards VR over 3D anyways, just a matter of time I guess.

Watch this video on youtube "IPS vs TN Monitors (ASUS PG279Q vs PG278Q)" While the video does compare the PG279Q vs PG278Q, the PG278QR is just an updated TN model. I don't notice any input lag on the PG279Q. I would link the youtube video but my account is too new to link yet.

Personal experience here..... I owned a PG279Q and it was by far the best monitor I ever owned.

Until I upgraded to the P348Q.

I'll never go back to a TN panel, just waiting for a 21.9 144Hz 1440P IPS panel with DP3

I've been loving my 21:9 80Hz (oc) 1440P IPS panel and will also never go back to a TN panel. With a TN panel if your always sitting dead center they work well but if you stray off a bit the color shift is very noticeable. Here is a look at the coming Predator X27 from Linus at YouTube. Linus mentioned it will probably come in around $2000 sometime in Q3. I'm sure you will get what you're waiting for but at what cost.
