    I wouldn't even mess with 1080p anymore. Move on to 1440p 144Hz, way better.

    I'm a big fan of 3440x1440 or 4k, but not a lot of 144hz monitors that do these. A few out there, but get ready to make your wallet cry.

    It depends on what you do with your computer. For gaming I would invest in a single monitor with a higher resolution and faster refresh rate. If you do things like Web Development, it might be worth considering purchasing two. 
     
    I wouldn't buy a 1080 monitor unless it has at least a 144hz refresh rate.

    That's not enough, this is pretty much the cheapest 144Hz 1440p monitors you can get:

    I ended up going with a Dell S2716DG that I found off eBay for about that same price... It's a TN panel, so it's not as vivid as the IPS panel, but it still works great with some calibrating.
