Hey all,
CPU: Intel Corei7 6900k @4.2Ghz - 1.26vcore/100bclk
Cooling: Corsair h100i
Mother Board: EVGA X99 FTWK
GPU: 1x Titan X Pascal
RAM: 4x 8GB CORSAIR DOMINATOR @3200mhz
SSDs: 2x Samsung 850 Pro 512GB, 1x Samsung 840 Pro
HDDs: 2x WD 750GB HD in raid 1
Sound: Creative Sound Blaster ZXR
Case: Coolermaster HAFX Case
PSU: 1200w Cosair PSU(1200AX)
Monitor(Main): Acer Predator XB271HU (144hz IPS)
Monitor(2ndary): Beng XL2420T(120hz TN)
OS: Windows 10 pro 64bit

I have started looking into my DPC latency when i noticed a bit of stuttering in a couple games. I am using dpc latency checker and LatencyMon. At the start of this endeavor I had 1000us spikes every couple ready from latency checker. First thing I did was close Corisair Link and this helped quite a bit. From every few times I now know had spikes every 5 or 6 times. After that I disabled processors C states in bios and this further reduced the 1000us spikes. After doing this I only had a spike 1 to 2 times per full page of polls. I then put my page file mngt to manual(I read about this and opted to put it back to auto, what are people here using?). Once on manual I was able to get a pull page of sub 100us polls with the still eventual 1000us spike. Once I had this info i installed LatecnyMon to get a more detailed picture of what was going on and it never caught the 1000us that DPC Checker was seeing and thus i was unable to find the culprit. I am inclined to trust DPC checker over LatencyMon.

My question: does anyone have any other common culprits for 1000us DPC spikes? Are those normal(1 spike every 1-2 full pages with DPC checker)? Should i keep my page file on manual, when on auto i get a spike or 2 every full page with DPC Checker.

Any help tracking down this issue would be most appreciated:)

Jonathan

DPC Latency Checker is only supported up to Windows 7 even though it will run on 8 & 10.  It will give false info  >>  http://www.thesycon.de/eng/latency_check.shtml

Use the latest version of LatencyMon for Win10  >>  http://www.resplendence.com/latencymon

Manual, on an SSD, small size (400MB-1GB) unless for some reason you need full crash dumps.

Why such a low size?

Thank for the reply :).  I dont really need full crash dumps. That does seem like a really small page file. Do you happen to know why such a small page file is advantageous and sufficient?

Here is why I recommend leaving it on auto...

Should you get involved in managing the page file? If you have more than one physical disk, moving the page file to a fast drive that doesn’t contain your Windows system files is a good idea. Using multiple page files split over two or more physical disks is an even better idea, because your disk controller can process mul¬tiple requests to read or write data concurrently. But don’t make the mistake of creating two or more page files using multiple volumes on a single physical disk. If, for example, you have a single hard disk that contains volumes C, D, and E, splitting the page file over two or more of these volumes, might actually make your computer run more slowly.

If you are short of hard disk space, you might consider setting a smaller initial page file size. Monitor peak usage levels over time; if the peak is well below the current page file size, you can consider reducing the initial size to save disk space. On the other hand, if you’re not short of disk space, there’s nothing to be gained from doing this and you might occasion¬ally overload your custom settings, thereby degrading the performance of your system.

Should you enlarge your page file? Most users won’t need to do this. But you might want to keep an eye on the green line in the Memory chart on the Overview tab of Resource Monitor. If that line is spiking off the top of the graph a great deal of the time during your normal work, you might consider increasing the maximum size of your page file. (Note that you should disregard page file spikes and disk activity in general that takes place while you’re not actually working. This is likely to be the result of search indexing, defragmentation, or other background processes and does not indicate a problem with your actual work performance.

Thanks guys! I do have 2 additional SSDs on my system not including my OS SSD. One of them is slower then the other. Seems to me that putting a auto managed page file on those drives and removing it from the system disk is the best play or should i just put one page file on the fastest non OS disk?

Thank you as always!

Move the page file to the fastest non os disk.

You've got 32 GB of RAM, on a desktop system there is no need for it page out much of anything, you won't hit the commit limit. 400 MB is enough for a mini dump and to page out handles. It's just a waste of SSD space otherwise.

https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/motiba/2015/10/15/page-file-the-definitive-guide/ Specifically recommends against setting it to Auto (pagefile fragmentation is a real thing, IMHO never set it to auto).
