I'll be over near a microcenter tomorrow and am debating on a ryzen 5 or 7 1600x or 1700x board and ram. Not sure which way to go would a 1080 card be ok with my 4.1 ghz x5650 or would I see better results with a new cpu and get the video card next month or 2. Or should I go with a 7700 but I also do some photo editing for friends and family and help with a website so the amd might be better. Anyways would like to hear what ya have to say and my current system should be in my Sig.
one more thing only got a 1920x1200 monitor but will be upgrading once i get the PC built if that matter

I would not get a MB, CPU and ram, then if not happy get the GPU later. Since I was going to anyway....
I would get the GPU now a 1080 or 1080Ti.see how it goes, then if not happy go for the MB combo. Run at 16 x PCIE 2
You still have 6 cores and 12 threads which is no slouch doing editing and multitasking and multithreading.
But that is just me. I have a few x5660 at 4.xxghz and doing BOINC tasks that do not use AVX the x56xx still hold their own.

Of corse the X5650 will hold a strong GTX back in CPU demanding games. If you are playing at 1080p anyway, you could also go with a GTX 1060/1070. I would wait with the CPU untill Intel presents Kaybelake X/Skylake X. If you are going with AMD now, you will be not able to get an EVGA motherboard.

I would go with mobo, RAM and CPU first. GTX 780 is still a decent gpu. If you plan on going AMD, make sure you do some research on mobo and RAM you go with.
