Getting rid of physical media (at least those of <1TB size) should be good for the environment.
 
Personally, I haven't needed a DVD drive in years, but I'm using the drive slot space for one of my HDDs.
Makes the drive noiseless as it's on a piece of foam eliminating any resonating with the case.
