Hello there guys,

So my computer had been working perfectly until yesterday night when it crashed getting into Ghost recon Wildlands.. The bad part is that since then it has been doing so.

  It crashes when:

-I try to open ghost recon wildlands (all the time at launch)
-At times when opening battlefield 1 (when it launches or at closing never during gameplay)
-Movie maker (always when trying to add a file to edit it)

Instances that it does not:

-Running 3dmark
-Prime95
-Witcher 3

Things that I have done but haven't helped:
-Reset everything back to stock (no more overlock)
-lowered the overclock while keeping same voltages

Please help.

Try re-installing the the game, it may have corrupt files in it, just a guess.

From your description it sounds like you may have faulty hdd/ssd.

Try moving ghost recon wildlands & bf1 to another hdd/ssd. Make sure to repair the game files after moving the games to a different hdd/ssd.

All my games are in my 3tb Hdd. It would not be impossible that a new hdd could be broken but if that was the case then the computer wouldn't crash while using Windows Movie Maker that is installed in the system ssd.

I thought it was the system ssd as well so I ran a test to see if it had any bad sectors and it came
up saying that the "ssd has no bad sectors"

The computer has been running Prime95 since yesterday around 11:50 pm and it's now 11 am and it's still running with no problems.

I did however set everything to stock to run Prime95 ( no overclock) but that shouldn't matter since it crashed at stock speeds as well before.

Also, yesterday night When I tried to install nvidia drivers the computer crashed getting into the Nvidia setup 👀.

    I'm really confused

Prime95 is still running the CPU at 100% and still no issues. I will let it run till tonight for a full 24 hours stress test. This is really mind boggling. How can games or other programs crash at their launch but this program can run full blast with no problems.

How exactly is the system crashing? With a blue screen? Does it instantly shutoff or what?

When I had a similar issue I found it to be bad RAM. I recommend doing a memtest.

Definitely time to run memtest86. Make sure you test all sticks of ram individually.

So changing the GPU didn't change anything since it was still crashing. However, I did not stop there and decided to test the GPU in a different PCI E slot and voila... The pc is no crashing anymore or so it seems.

Question though. The primary slot(the one that's faulty) was 16x and all of the other ones are 8x. What's the big difference when gaming between the 16 and the 8?
