Is my current PSU capable of running the below system?  I plan on oc'ing the CPU to 4.0GHz across all physical cores, and RAM also requires oc'ing to reach 3200MHz at CL14 capability.  I can also provide detail on fans which are 4x Phanteks PH-F140MP (push/pull 280mm rad) and 3x Phanteks PH-F140HP II (2x intake/1x exhaust)..

I have a pretty complex system and can say that I do sometimes get close to that number with a OC CPU and GPUs (mfger OCs) on very heavy loads like Folding@Home.  I honestly think you should be ok and at best you should be protected regardless.

    Looks like you'll need a 1000w psu.

In response to thread name, it has been added now, the FTW3 pulls a max of 280 watts.  Sorry for the delay for getting that added.

Really..? You've got me worried now.. I have all of the components (sans FTW3 obviously) but haven't ever powered on yet because no AM4 retention kit from NZXT yet.. 😑

Problem is, I can't RMA my PSU anymore because I got it from Newegg o/a 8 February and it's now outside of the standard 30d return policy.

So, do you really advise 1000W or are you being cautious? True and honest opinion please? What would you do if it was your stuff?

You have a solid 850w unit.  Power-wise, 1000w is certainly safer in the sense that you'll have a bit more peace of mind when it comes to the wattage.  However, you're running only two cards.  Although max wattage may push you up closer to 850w, you'll most likely be fine.  I would actually worry more about making sure you have enough connectors than enough power with what you have.  Plenty of people get by when using a good 850w unit, which is what you have.

I'm only recommending a 1000w as it isn't a smart idea to run a psu near peak wattage all the time as you will wear the psu out quicker. PSU's degrade over time as well and won't be able to output as much power as they did when new which could cause your computer to experience issues like random reboots due to lack of power because the psu degraded. Can you get by with a 850w? Most likely. If it was my stuff I would get the 1000w. I'm personally running a 1200w at this time with my current system that is listed in my mods rigs page.

Hate to rehash, but would 2x 1080 Ti SC2 cards do better and not require a new PSU? Which oh BTW I cannot find a Seasonic PRIME 1000w Titanium anywhere even though their site says they make them!?

Thanks for the help :) you guys are sooooo much nicer than Reddit is, gah ask for help over there I dare you!

Also, if even with the 2x 1080 Ti SC2s the PSU still isn't ideal, please advise. I will just get a better PSU and have the cards that I really wanted anyway.

WOW, I just had the BEST customer experience with Seasonic, and the best customer service experience I believe I have ever had anywhere!

I emailed Seasonic requesting an expected date for their Seasonic PRIME 1000 Titanium PSU, and I also explained that my current PSU (which no longer meets my requirements) is new and unused but outside of Newegg's standard 30-day return/replace policy.

Within a few hours I had a response on availability AND directions on how to return my Seasonic PRIME 850 Titanium PSU to the manufacturer for a full refund!  Totally unheard of, and that, ladies and gentlemen, is why consumers benefit from doing business with companies with strong/positive customer service support histories.   (Companies like EVGA and Seasonic!)

Wow, that's great news!  Gotta give it to Seasonic.

Even though I went with another PSU company, I still view Seasonic as my #1 go to premium brand and they truly are.
