This is the third Classified 980 ti I've gotten that can't run a single game, even OG Left 4 Dead without crashing. It is not my system, I've used 3 different GPUs as loaners while I waited weeks on end for return cards, no crashes. I work 45 hours a week. You've wasted hours of my time, precious little time I have for gaming with a ridiculously expensive card. The last time I called I begged to be downgraded to any other low end 980 ti because I don't trust your binning or refurbished process heavily overclocked cards any more. I was told "It's fine, we've done "extensive testing." YOUR TESTING IS BULL. Every card I've gotten can pass benchmarks just fine. It's ACTUAL GAMES that crash, usually within 10 minutes. It is not a DX error on my end, I've ruled everything out. These cards fail the same way in my friend's systems. GIVE ME A CARD THAT WORKS. That's all I ask.

    Hi Fennicillin,

I'm sorry to hear that you're still having issues with the unit, however it does sound like there may be more going on here than just a faulty card.

I'm sure you've heard by now that we verified the failure on the first unit, however the last card you sent in passed testing as well as the one we sent out to you so it would seem unlikely that we would be able to detect the issue once but not on any subsequent cards experiencing the same problems. Of course saying that is easy, and this doesn't mean the the issue is not present while you're trying to game, however can you please note which cards have you been using to test in the interim?

If the card can pass a benchmark multiple times without issue, even though this is a synthetic environment, we can use this information to help determine the health of the card since the same commands and operations that would be occurring during game rendering can be performed without engaging other processing and transport systems to help reduce the complexity of the scenario. Maybe running a higher resolution benchmark would trigger this?

I'm not here to claim that I know everything, but what this usually indicates is that the issue lies in the supply chain, and since everything seems to be working fine with other cards this would likely point toward:
-PSU (if the power requirements are significantly different; this would include power via the PCIe bus)
-Software (if there are driver conflicts, etc. with the 900 series geforce driver you are using)
-Firmware incompatibilities (pretty rare, motherboard may be having some weird issues communicating with this specific card)

In any case, EVGA would like to assist you in resolving this issue however it sounds like more troubleshooting is needed to get to the bottom of this. If you would like to troubleshoot here, maybe the community can provide valuable input and suggestions. Otherwise, I will email you directly and we can try to move forward from there.

The other cards I used were an ASUS RX470, 970 Superclocked and 750 Ti FTW. My power supply is an 1000 G2, other systems had EVGA 600 Bs. My crashes with the Classifieds have been with the last 3 driver revisions, always custom and clean installed. I've used DDU each time as a last resort. Everytime I underclock the cards the crashes become fewer and farrer between.

How are the temps on the 980 Classified when you get the crash?

Sorry to hear about your frustrstions. Hopefully EVGA can get you sorted and get everything running for you.

Every return crashed regardless of temps. My curves kept them under around. This new one hits 80C without a custom curve with my side panel off and runs hotter than the previous 2. Still crashed at a custom one at 65C. To be specific I'm getting game crashes, with this and the previous one. Not driver crashes. The other system tested in had blue screens.

Did you check the windows event viewer on those systems for BSOD code information? This can help guide us in the right direction.

If the issue is specific to a game, or game engine, then I'm not sure how we can generalize this to hardware failure; temps don't seem to be affecting the issue, and PSU capacity (at least) is not a question in these systems.

The necessity to downclock the card to increase stability does point toward overclock or timing stability issues (even potentially power fluctuation rather than failure), however this is still relatively vague given that benchmarks seem to be unaffected. You wouldn't happen to have an overclock on your CPU would you?

+1, also you have a complicated monitor setup your trying to use which is probably why your running into odd issues. You need to break down to one preferred monitor, remove either precision and/or afterburner, cleanup and clear cmos. Which monitor or the tv are you gonna use so we can better help you figure this out?

If the card fails in system #1 and system #2 (friends), i don't think it would be due to monitor setup on system #1. It's rare, but i have seen people over the years go through 3-4 RMA's before they received one that works like it should.

If EVGA thinks it might be power related, offer to cross-ship RMA the 1000 G2 power supply too.

I reinstalled Windows, redownloaded BF4. Just crashed. At 65C, nothing overclocked. Everything bone stock. No overlays running. Everthing has been bone stock, I'm talking downclocking my ram and running my CPU at stock, losing extra performance I PAID FOR just to narrow down and troubleshoot, which quite frankly I'm sick of doing.

I'm not using that complicated monitor setup anymore. Just a 1440p and 1080p setup.

My friend works odd hours and was kind enough to put it with constant Smite, KF2 and Diablo 3 crashes, which is practically he only things he plays and as for Smite takes very seriously. I don't need to bother him to scour his event viewer for codes from weeks ago. Weeks being my gripe is that I've had to endure borrowing other GPUs for the time I actually get to play, instead of using my AT ONE POINT SEVEN.HUNDRED.DOLLAR. graphics card.

Yeah, they can just go ahead and charge me $160 over 2 weeks of turnaround time, take my power supply and send me back a janky RMA to add more problems to my list.

Talk to a RMA supervisor, see if you can work something out.  Maybe they will offer a free EAR (EVGA Advanced RMA) for the GPU and PSU.

Las time I tried to work with them to advance the RMA for the two junk cards they told me they already bent over backwards to give me "extended testing."

I even begged for them to downgrade me to a lower end 980ti because I falt out don't trust their binning anymore. Which I shouldn't have to do! And they said "sorry Charlie, it's policy." They're trying to empty the bucket on their 3 year old refurbs.

I can't even in good conscience sell this card on Reddit or Craiglist. Every day I can't play any games or try and recoup whatever value is left in this series. It's just wrong when you pay for a top tier card and tell you "tough luck" and send you junk in replacement.

Push for it again, you shouldn't have to pay to return a faulty replacement card. If they want to help resolve it, ask about advanced RMA on the power supply too, if they think it's a power issue. If they think it needs more troubleshooting, stay on the phone with the tech until they admit you need another RMA. If the supervisor is unwilling to help you, ask to speak to his boss.

Your not the first person to ever have to do 3-4 RMA's on a EVGA graphics card, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. It's rare to happen, but it has happened.

Well as far as 3 or 4 rmas goes I'm not going through this again. The moment they give me a working card, knock on wood, I'm selling it and going to another vendor. I recommended them for years to all my friends. Not anymore. I didn't pay for top tier to have to borrow a 750 ti to game in a 1080p window on my 1440p monitor and run back and force to the UPS store. This is garbage.

I agree, it's no fun having to deal with RMA's.  Are you dealing with US support or EU Support?

US support. I'm going to have to call them after work tomorrow. And go back to this 750 ti my friend is kind enough to loan me still. I can't wait to get my 4th, refurbished early run Classified that "passed all extensive testing." -_-

Tried calling Customer service with two hangups on their end and now a busy signal.

EDIt: Tried calling 10 times over the past hour. Rings once, silence, rings again, then hang up on their end. This doesn't happen when I call anyone else.

    Dear Fennicillin,

Unfortunately we are experiencing a outage with AT&T.  I will have a Support supervisor reach out to you to assist and thank you for your understanding and patience.
