Haven't seen a high end intel chip yet I couldn't squeeze 500ghz more out of. Yes, a 5ghz chip for every day use! Bring it!

Same uArch, 100Mhz more, no IGP, and it uses a more expensive motherboard / platform? Easy pass

Intel has publicly known of the codename "Zen" for about two years, a true reaction to it won't arrive for another 2-3yrs as a brand new architecture using a codename that isn't related to all the "-lakes" we are seeing. This will give a legit IPC boost, like Conroe did to Presler, think greater than 50%, as well as using less transistors due to zero need for legacy support.

That's the one to look forward to, think a 2-3GHz CPU that performs like a hypothetical 6GHz Kaby Lake.

For Intel processors, 0.122 x TDP = Continuous Amps at 12v [source].

There are hints that the successor to tiger lake will be that, although to what end, we will find out in 2019-2020.

I've been holding out on an upgrade to my Bloomfield system and this may be the winner.  Like many others, would love to have PCIE gen 4 for future-proofing.  However, I can imagine there's always a greener pasture on the other side...

"the new Core i7-7740K will not include an integrated GPU for on-board graphics, like the 7700K does now - and will bump the TDP up to 112W, from 91W on 7700K. 20 more watts, for the same Turbo Boost clock of 4.5GHz, and 4C/8T - without integrated graphics, hmm."

That's going to run pretty hot...

It might not, TDP is just a category for multiple processors of varying specs; in all probability, the 7740K wouldn't run any hotter than a 7700K with the marginal frequency bump to account for the higher base clock.  It's the same die minus the IGP, no extra PCIe lanes or DDR4 channels that would normally be a quad-core Xeon in LGA2066.

I still don't get why Intel is bothering bringing back 4C/8T to the HEDT platform.  The 7700K is pretty much as good as it gets in that realm.  Unless this can push another 0.5GHz, I don't see any point in this aside from having a few of the X299 exclusive features, like more PCI-E lanes and quad-channel memory.

I really dont think about getting a Quadcore CPU again. Skylake X looks much more interesting to me. Less L3 cache then Broadwell-E but bigger L2 cache.

Quad core I'll pass, it's six cores or higher for me this day and age. Altho the 299 chipset will get one eventually I imagine. Then I might consider and X58 upgrade. As it is Westmere does all I ask of it.

Then you want skylake X, which is the 6+ core X299 part, according to rumors.
