    If it's like the 1080 non-Ti, the black doesn't have a backplate.

Edit: it shows as having a backplate in the description, so who knows?

I looked on the description and they both look like they both have a backplate but I'm not certain

The black edition has a black cover, the regular SC2 has silver...

That's all that pops out at me.

The SC2 has the entire iCX system(VRM and VRAM temp monitoring etc.) while the Black edition simply has the iCX cooler. That is the only difference I know of... And the colour of course.

thanks. I'll probably just go with the Black Edition then if it's available on the 28th. If not, SC Gaming Edition it is

From what I've gathered, the Black Edition is the reference board with an ICX cooler on it. That's all. The SC2 has a custom board that has thermal sensors on it, allows you to control each fan individually, has a safety fuse, and other things. Power delivery seems to be the same and I doubt one would overclock better than the other.

Yea that is what i'm thinking as well, but it's hard to make an informed decision untill we learn what the price difference will be

Black Edition could end up being cheaper if that is the case. And I don't plan on overclocking either so I don't need all the additional bells and whistles. Just the ICX cooler.

    ^^ This.

Also heard someone from EVGA say in a podcast that the SC Black Edition has the safety fuse (contrary to what the chart says).

I remember that as well. Hopefully we will know for sure exactly how they differ on the 28th.

I did this thread TWO weeks ago.  Some of EVGA's techs got involved as well...I had found some discrepancies in the product description.  If you read through the whole thread, you will have a very clear idea of the differences

That is a good catch. I had not seen this description from Lee: https://forums.evga.com/FindPost/2629227

    From Lee's post:

"The SC Black Edition features everything from the iCX Cooler:
    • Die-cast baseplate/backplate
    • Pin fins, multiple contact points between baseplate and heatsink
    • Pin holes and half-open fins to direct airflow around and through the card.
However, the card does not feature the iCX Technology, which means:
    • Fans are not asynchronous (only 1 fan header, not two)
    • Only the Nvidia GPU sensor (standard on all Nvidia cards)
    • Standard PCB, without any of the exclusive iCX PCB features (with the exception of a safety fuse).
Think of the GTX 1080 Ti Black Edition this way:  it's got all of the best new cooling features from iCX, but without the sensors or the asynchronous fans.  If you're the type of person that isn't worried about the temperatures around the PCB - especially with the newer cooling features on the iCX Cooler - then you can save a little money and go with this card, compared to the iCX version.  Similarly, the 1080 Ti SC Black Edition uses a reference PCB, which may be important to you if you're looking for aftermarket cooling, such as watercooling.  If you want the full iCX Technology with the sensors and asynchronous fans, however, then you'll want to go with the 1080 Ti SC2."

    Hello,

I apologize for the confusion. The 1080 Ti SC Black edition will have a reference PCB design and ICX cooling.

The 1080 Ti SC2 will have ICX technology and cooling.

The frequencies of both cards are the same.

Yes, unless you manually control the fan/curve with software, such as Precision XOC.
