So even though I used the screws and not the standoffs it appears that the backplate cover still touches the board as it is a 2 piece backplate and it seems to touch it in the middle. If there were standoffs in the middle this wouldn't be a problem.  I am wondering what others did to prevent this.

to be honest id be tempted to get a new backplate anyway as they do look nice, especially the polished mirror finish ones if you are using sli, its nice to see the blocks, well i think it is anyway.

If I was going to water I would get a new backplate so it would look uniform with the block. It is a good idea for them to use the same threads encase someone wants to save from money.

May our framerates be high and our temperatures low.

so happy i found this thread. ordering my block tonight. was going to buy a backplate but now i can save my self 40 bucks !!!!
would you guys recommend getting some thermal pads to run on the back side of the card (for vrm area and vram area?) don't really like the idea of the backplate sitting there without thermal pads (dont want it to trap hot air between)

The stock backplate isn't as securely held on when used with the EKWB as it is with the stock setup, because there are a number of screws that aren't used. And being a two-part backplate, I had to take care to make sure it wasn't flexing inward and touching the card anywhere, but it's on there fine, and it's cheaper than the EK backplate, so I'm happy.

Also, the Titan X Pascal water block isn't exactly the same as the 1080ti water block. The Titan XP block has a cutout to accomodate the DVI connector, while the 1080ti doesn't. The 1080ti block also comes with a 1-slot connector plate thingy so the card is converted to true 1-slot form factor, which is pretty slick.

Exactly.  I used some thermal pads around the GPU area and middle where the two cards meet.  The front part back plate doesn't seem to have a problem as there are enough posts.  The rear part (part closest to ports) the of the back plate has an issue where the 2 pieces meet.
