I just found out about this the other day...it's been out a while...I figured other folks would benefit. My main display is a 60 Hz 4K unit. Often while gaming, my Titan X P will only be at 50% to 60% GPU usage as the default V Synch is limiting frame rate to 60 Hz. If you go into the NVIDIA control panel and select Fast Synch instead of V Synch, a different technology is utilized that allows the game to render at max frame rate and display at the frame rate of the monitor. The effects for me were noticeably less input lag, and the GPU being at max utilization in all games. Pretty impressive. The technology is not G Synch...so it won't have an affect if the GPU is rendering frames slower than the monitor refresh rate. This works for Maxwell and Pascal cards.

There is nothing wrong with your video card only being at 50-60% utilization when using V-Sync. It just means that the card doesn't need to be fully utilized to hit the V-Sync target and power is being used optimally. That being said, I believe Fast Sync to be the superior option due to the reduced input lag as you said, and is a good alternative to Adaptive V-Sync for those who do not have G-Sync.

Where is this parameter located in Control Panel? Its not listed in the Vertical Sync line.

@ArmeniusLOD: I never said there was something wrong with 50-60% utilization when using V Sync. This was a PSA post, not a whining post. :-) @krellnut: In NVIDIA control panel --> 3D Settings --> V Sync. There is a drop down menu, and you select Fast Sync instead of V Sync. I did this as a "global change". You also have to turn off V Sync in the game, and set the FPS to unlimited or maximum or whatever the game has.

You are in the right spot. Are you running a Maxwell or Pascal card? Also - what version of drivers? It was introduced in the 372 series. bcavnaugh Post images if you can of how to turn this off.
I'm at work...will have to wait until I get home.

2 -1080Ti's w\ 378.92 driver. Could it be called; smooth or fast? These are the options I have. Use The 3D application setting Off On On (smooth) Adaptive Adaptive (half refresh rate) This is the description for On(smooth); Fast- GPU renders unconstrained similar to VSYNC off, but does not tear since frame rates in excess of the refresh rate of the monitor are dropped. Delivers latency that is very close to VSYNC off with no tearing. This must be it, correct?

Last time I tried to do this it caused issues. Fast sync must not work with sli. Pretty sure that is why it isn't listed in the first place when running sli.

The other option is to run with VSync off. If you can push >150 FPS the tearing is not really visible once you start playing. The tear lines are still there but they are about 90% smaller. The only way I notice it is if I'm standing still looking for them.

It also seems to break Fallout 4, causing it to run 120+ fps, at least for me. I played with nVidia Inspector, but decided regular v-sync with triple-buffering on was good enough - I have one 1080p monitor, so it's not like my 1080 was working hard in the first place...
