I'm considering these two monitors to replace my 5 year old Dell 30" Ultrasharp.

Dell 27" Gaming Ultrasharp Monitor

Dell 32" Curved Monitor

I have SLI 780s and I'm wondering what would be better. I'm worried the 32" curved will tax the SLI so much my games will have to be lowered from where they currently are.

Thoughts?

I'm using DVI; but I believe the newer monitors are DP or mDP only.

The S2716DG? Do it. Probably the best monitor I have owned. Not a fan of curved displays though so my bias is obvious.

My only fear is whether I'm going to sit there and find reason to feel like I lost something going from 30 to 27 LOL.

Grant it width is in pixels is same; just shorter by 160px.

My one complaint with the 30" I have, is that I have to run VSYNC otherwise I get really bad screen tearing.

Well you will like the G-sync on the S2716DG then. IMHO high refresh rate and G-sync/Free-sync are the best things to happen to PC gaming in years. I've owned exclusively high refresh rate monitors for 7 years now, and G-sync for about a year. G-sync was equally as cool an upgrade as the high refresh rate, maybe more so. I can't go back on either now, I'm too spoiled ;)

    Nice!

Remember to set the refresh rate to 144 Hz, turn on G-sync in the NV control panel, and turn off V-sync inside your games' settings (you can enable global V-sync in the NV control panel if you want it, will use G-sync under 144 FPS and V-sync over 144 FPS). Some in game V-sync will interfere with G-sync so that's why you want it off there.

    Will do.

    The only issue I have right now is that everything seemed washed out. I set my settings as such;

    Nvidia Control Panel>Adjust desktop color settings: Brightness-50% Contrast-50% Gamma-0.60% Digital vibrance-70% Hue-0
    DELL Monitor settings: Brightness-26% Contrast-75% Color>Custom Color: R-97% G-99% B-96%

Now it feels like some games are TOO dark. May just need to adjust to difference in monitor surface compared to old 30" I had.

They have an ICC profile you can download and the OSD settings they used. I used the profile until I recently got a calibration device and it was pretty damn close. Your settings match theirs so sounds like you already saw it, but try grabbing the ICC and resetting the NV CP settings to default. I think the 60% gamma in NV is your problem.

I'll give that shot. I'm starting to fight the thoughts, it's definitely much smaller than my monster 30".

I want to fire up BF4 and see how it goes. I did play WOW for bit and noticed it doesn't lag as much as it used to with old Monitor. However it can't run SLI, so I definitely want to see what BF4 does.

Ok; I loaded the ICC and set up the color as they requested and it looks better.

I'm starting to wonder if my 30" Dell was too dark because I tell difference in my wallpaper.

    AH there we go!

I went back and turned on NV display settings and put GAMMA at 0.75 -- it took the whitewash out of it.

That was problem I had; it seemed like someone took white chalk and just spread it across screen.

That is the problem with that monitor.  I owned 2 of them and couldn't deal with the washed out colors/anti-glare coating on the monitor :(

    I think I finally got that fixed -- I loaded the ICC profile and then made the following changes in NVCP;

    Brightness 50% Contract 60% Gamma 0.75 Digital Vibrance 50%

It now looks like my old monitor did.

I guess I just got spoiled with my IPS screens.  I love vivid bright colors

I agree -- the IPS is definitely nicer.

It's still a work in progress--I'm battling the shear fact that overall I lost a lot of desktop "real estate". Just testing out two games I play; WOW (doesn't support SLI) and BF4; I've noticed I can run them with VSYNC off and they are perfect. No jitter and no screen tearing. On the 30" IPS; without VSYNC enabled; it was BAD. I couldn't play BF4 on max without serious issues. Even in WOW; in dense areas it would slow day bad--now it just powers through and stable.

I just don't want it to be a $600 mistake.

How's the monitor treating you so far?
I play the same sorts of games and getting ready to upgrade.
    I currently have a Asus 27" 2k IPS panel with 60hz.

Looking at getting the same Dell you picked up or the Acer predator - only thing deterring my on the Acer is the cost jump for the IPS panel.

I'm liking the performance -- I finally got the color set right so it doesn't look all washed out.

The only thing I'm fighting is the size--it's definitely different from the 30 inch I had.

BTW I've been playing with using Fast Sync in the NV control panel instead of V-sync, it's really nice. G-sync + Fast Sync is the way to go IMHO, try it out.

    I'll check if out.

I have vsync turned off in my games.

Where did you find fast sync?

You can only use fast sync when running a single gpu.

Oh that won't work. Since I got SLI.

just picked myself one of these dells up. got it for a great price.

need to wait till tomorrow to tinker with it.
only thing I'm worried about is the difference from the IPS ive been using. but I couldn't justify spending another $300 just to get IPS
