Hello,
I have been gifted an EVGA 970GTX. Since I don't really need it (I own EVGA's 1060, and I plan to buy EVGA's 1080 now that they are cheaper), I intend to sell it. Thing is, it does have coil whine. A lot, in fact. I have recently discovered my 1060 also coil whines quite a bit when I replaced noisy stock CPU fan with a custom one, but the 970 is SUPER loud whiner).
The question is, if I RMA the card (it's still on warranty period), will it get replaced for a 1070GTX? I heard that's what EVGA does with faulty lastgen cards, but does it also apply to coil whine RMA?
Depending on the answer, I may sell it as-is, or get it RMAd. Can I reasonably expect to receive a 1070GTX as a replacement, or should I simply sell it as-is?
To answer the question that will be undoubtedly asked: Yes, I have tested the GPU on two different mobos and two different PSUs (one of them is EVGA G2 650W), and I also used a UPS to make sure my crappy 100yo electrical in-house installation isn't causing any trouble. Both of my cards whine for 100%, not PSUs, not MoBos.
