Not exactly "news" (1 year old), but I have not seen Amazon Lumberyard mentioned on this forum, so I thought to share this.

In short, Lumberyard is Amazon's framework for building games -- it includes the game engine (built in partnership with Crytek), the designer tools, and is wired for cloud (AWS of course), Twitch (which was acquired by Amazon) and is cross-platform -- the developers can build games for PC, consoles and mobile devices. Amazon has interesting monetization model for it: Lumberyard is free to use. The only catch is that if your game uses Cloud, it has to use AWS (standard AWS rates apply for the services like EC3, S3, RDS etc.). If one builds a game that does not use Cloud in any way -- they free roll. Amazon believes the latter is rare as more and more games are "social" and "connected" and would tend to use the Cloud storage/compute/etc.

Check it out; it's pretty good:

BioHazardSperm posted about it last year: http://forums.evga.com/Amazon-steps-into-gaming-m2444579.aspx
Only got two replies though, so this thread is more lively.

Lumbaryard is free from Amazon. It's just a retooled Crytech engine with Amazon cloud service.

After what Crytek has pulled with not paying their artist twice, and this Limberyard installer being crap, editor being bloated, sounds more like Crytek being desperate with Lumberyard.....
