Today the ASUS Geforce 6800 GT AGP 256MB arrived, it was very dirty so I took good care of it and cleaned it 8)
So here the photo's of this cleaned 6800GT with my PC Flashed V5 5500 PCI Macintosh 64MB which both will be used in the Dual P4 Xeon 3Ghz :)

It amazes me that these 12+ year old parts still continue to work.

Maintenance is key man, the Voodoo5 is 17 years old almost it's from week 29, Year 2000 ;)
my oldest functional card is a Quantum3D Obsidian2 X24 PCI 24MB 384Bit EDO Rev.D 9822 / Fourth Final Revision D, Year 1998, Week 22.

So yeah I have much older working hardwware, the system that X=24 is in is from Q2 of 1999

My trick is keeping the parts as clean as possible, dust is a killer for everything.
With these oldies it's much less work than these new gen things we have now, cases are much larger they have more fans in them even the water cooled systems it's all a lot more work they have radiators that have fans thus where there are fans there is always airflow thus suction of air particles which forms loads of micro dust  when using it more than 3 a 4 weeks.
 
Due to all the hard to reach places in these new gen systems  even if they are gaming systems workstations or even servers, it's just a lot more work to keep clean.
I Just go to my balcony I use air cans ( Pressurized Air Duster Cans ) for the hard to reach places since taking my servers apart isn't possible for me due to my arthritis I have in my hands.
Air cans remove about 80% of the dust then I use a soft paint brush to get rid of the dust to where I can reach it, that mostly does the trick a lot.
 
As Maintenance goes it's a lot more work to keep clean than to  just build a new system, with Retro builds it's easier since everything is much easier to reach, in some kind of way.

Okay well I have started taking the System Sveta SMP 2004 apart;
All by removing it's MSI MS-9130 K8T Master2 FAR motherboard with CPU's, Ram &CPU Coolers installed as one whole.
Then I took out all the other remaining parts like the optical drives the floppy & hard drive all the case fans etc.

Here a galley of pics I will show you on how far I have gotten today:

Here is how I cleaned most of the metal parts and larger non electrical parts:

Carefully I start removing parts like the PSU shown here, I used pliers to cut away the old tie wraps, and gently checked the cables , all seemed find in the end:

These old parts were also removed & cleaned and repacked, the MSI Dual Opteron setups will be sold.

Tomorrow I will install it as I am super tired now, my arthritis in my hands is really playing up as well.
Ah well I have to admit even that this system was complicated to build, it was very challenging for my skills in making a clean build;
So even for that part this was well worth doing.

Major downside:

I can use either the GeForce 6800 GT AGP 256MB which is set to IRQ 22 or the V5 5500 PCI Mac, to which IRQ I cant seem to find.
Basically the GeForce won't function if the V5 is installed no matter what slot I use I get constant conflicts.

If I remove the V5 all is fine if I use the V5 alongside the GeForce the V5 works the GeForce gets IRQ Issues and will remain to be seen as GeForce 6800 with a yellow explanation mark in the device manger.

So it's either the GeForce 6800 GT AGP 256MB or the PC Flashed Voodoo5 5500 PCI Macintosh 64MB and not both.
I also tried normal PCI slots for the V5 and again No Go, nada, nothing.

It could be that this motherboard doesn't like having multiple VGA Cards installed of varied brands.
I don't know what else o think of it, oh well bad things can happen ... I guess, can't have everything, the Dual OpteronMP 850 CGI used before this had no issues with multiple VGA cards.

A Shame for that part as I really had hoped this to work, yet it does not.
So if any of you have idea's how to get this working feel free to place input on that I just am out of options as of now.
 
No luck with the V5, even after disabling IRQ's in the bios like you suggested, no change this is what I did do before removing the V5 for the last time:


But as you can see the V5 installed perfectly yet the GeForce gets the issues, even that it too is installed perfectly.
When I remove the V5, this issue is gone, as if this never took place.

And yeah this build was probably the most challenging ever, it wasn't easy let me put it that way

Those old builds are a lot harder to put together than the modern builds.

Here my result after a default run in 3D mark 2001 SE Build 330

 
So hey for the best Dual Intel CPU based system money could buy in Dec 2003 / Jan 2004 20802 3D marks is pretty good I think
No OC everything default, as I want to most accurate result of this 15.000 USD  Dual Xeon Gallatin 3Ghz from that time.
 
My P4 2Ghz gets 10714 3D Marks with a Leadtek GeForce 6800 AGP 128MB 256Bit DDR1.
This card uses the NV42 GPU which has 12 Pixel Shaders and 5 Vertex Shaders
The 6800 GT AGP 256MB 256Bit GDDR3 uses the NV40 GPU which has 16 Pixel Shaders and 6 Vertex Shaders, thus being the real deal here

Anyways here the score of my P4 2Ghz, the CPU was obviously the major bottleneck here:


The Dual Intel XeonMP Gallatin 3Ghz with it's 6800 GT AGP 256MB Destroys this P4 2Ghz with it's 6800 AGP 128MB  by a mile!
The P4 2Ghz is holding the 6800 AGP 128MB back, it truly shows

Yeah thanks I was really impressed on how much faster the Dual Xeon MP Gallain 3Ghz is over the Pentium4 Willamette 2Ghz rofl,about twice as fast, even that both setups use the same CPU instruction sets MMX, SSE & SSE2, they both have the same RDRAM amount and they both use ECC as well, i850 & i860 are of the same age and family class.
This was very worth while to look in to, I use the DUal gallatin a lot btw, it's a very interesting and fun system to use and to mess around with

Yeah it did yet the Thermaltake Indigo Orb kept it around 55 a 60C and no higher it was the best cooler for the Socket 423  P4's these were the first Gen P4's as well it had to start somewhere AMD's Athlon Thunderbird 1400Mhz destroyed the P4 2Ghzwith plentiful ease with most games, just as long SS2 wasn't used  the Athlons were faster.
 
Athlons also had much higher FPU's that P4's the only things P4's were good at doing was Lame MP3 Encoding Quake III Arena & Descent 3 for the rest, Athlons were really your best bet same as Ryzen 5 1600x is today.
 
The Xeon MP Gallatin for Socket 603 was the S423 P4 CPU for Multi CPU platforms it is also the real deal as in the full package.
 
Pentium 4 Willamette 2Ghz has 32KB L1 and 256KB L2 but no L3 and no Hyper Threading
Xeon MP Gallatin 3Ghz has 128KB L1, 512KB L2 and 4096KB L3 + Hyper Threading.
 
Both CPU's only have MMMX, SSE & SSE2, both didn't have SSE3 yet.
Both used Rambus PC-800-40ns ECC RDRAM
 
Pentium 4 Willamette used the intel 850 Chipset and Socket 423 later 478 & 775.
Xeon MP Gallatin used Socket 603 and later Socket 604 & 771.
 
All in all netburst wasn't grand it needed long ram bandwidth based apps to get the max out of but not allw as bad Hyper Threading was a handy idea
The LGA 1155 Core i7's, Core i5's & Core i3's used Hypter Threading for the first time since the P4 & Xeon DP's/MP's had it, LGA 1366 improved the tech once more.
 
My Goal was to renovate and build a max upgraded Socket 423 based P4 2Ghz and a Dual Socket 603 Xeon MP 3Ghz and that was a successful project.
One I am very proud of doing It was very edicate just on how these things perform, the Gallatin system performs very well compared to the Willamette system

I have a question please: You're using an Asus P4T with an Enermax modu 82+ but an modu 82+ do not provide -5V voltage (white cable) output. The P4T mainboard bios analyse the -5V voltage so what did you do in order to run the P4T mainboard? Did you set up in the Bios the -5V voltage monitoring to ignore and so the P4T can run without the -5V voltage? And the main question: Will the P4T work with newer PSU without the white cable -5V voltage - did you have any further experience with that?

This thread brings back some memories of systems past. I remember my first "gaming" PC with a Pentium 2 350Mhz, 64MB RAM and a Voodoo 2 12MB video card. It let me play Unreal at 1024x768 max settings smooth as butter. PC's I had before that were just generic junk. Wish I still had some of my older stuff to do a classic system restore like this.
