Hi Folks
Here is an 2+ decade FP-S-hooter Veteran. (As in...13/14-18K ours BF series since beginning ;-P...OR for some more like ;-/ "Da fudge?!" ;-D
((With BF Series way above many others I (used to) play obviously, most ours wont be found, PS3, PS4, Xbox, few mods on BF stats by BF mods/devs, LOTS of lost stats..NO I am a legit only player with anything online...yes I cheated in fully offline games like many other legit "No-life" players do ;-))
Request to Mods; Please decide and provide link to where the most appropriate place is to continue a topic or subject since all together it's in the end all relevant to the eventual performance enhancements and results.
With the above and whats written below in mind + me on a tight/nearly locked budget...">>>"
Only got the pretty "limited funds" for Intel Core i7 1366 990x and a 8TB HDD EXT. storage.
This for my eventual future planned re-install and re-do of my entire install and setup)>*
>*** Probably will own the ext. HDD before the 990x CPU since it is VERY hard to get with proper warranty or guaranties making it safe to buy for me.
(It looks for me now like; either buy cheap and risk it, or NA/Not Available within/for NL with proper guaranties or warranty...both in a way so I got all the time I would need to install it myself over time...which I prefer)
>* I can buy it myself when cheap but only if not THAT limited to the moment and time and moment it needs to be build in.
>* I ain't all that mentally young and knowledgeable anymore to build it in the next day, so keep ending not buying one when cheap.
>* Most of the time I chicken out, having one would mean the need to build it in for checkup if it's a functioning/working unit, don't got any tools and am not not THAT eager to get started on it on my own anymore. (Been since days if IBM 286 and Pentium gens days I have build in CPU....mentally A LOT older and degraded since then ;-/...)
>>> I would like to take use of my CURRENT hardware the best and most speedy way possible.
(Gaming Browsing and Browsing Scripting, user feel speed experience, (I/O) speedy wise is for me the way to go)
Achievement preferred goals;
I am looking into Re-installing my old GPU again and find a way to give it a purpose.
Offloading slowest hardware tasks like CPU and slow HDD Hard drives to GX470 Stock and GTX980(SC) GPU 's and 24GB RAM for;
Preferably Caching and preferably also specific ways of moving Page Files-(which are currently HUGE on purpose) and Game Files-(maps mostly for decreased initial start and load times between rounds/maps/modes)
Moving of Page-Files in specific manner; In Windows there can be setup a Page files for EACH hard drive in Individually which can dramatically speed up the storage speeds for THAT drive on frequently used files.
(Setup of Page Files is default Windows way of caching setup in MS Win (7) setup)
I would like to Utilize this feature set of windows on a whole specific level and in specific manner. (You in such IT business/specialism....here comes a challenge ;-)
1. Everything true a User Interface. (seems easy at first glance tho it is a lot all together)
((I am incrementally speeding towards getting to old for prompt lines/DOS/CMD, some moments/days/periods I CAN still do it when taking LOT's of time for it...,
But I prefer to stay away from it, especially since I got no UI to check what was changed and revert it relatively easily))
2. I would preferably like to be able to setup and alter the (windows) caching for frequently used files and prioritize on several profiles based on active and possibly even based on usage counts + date/time of last usage(frequency based usage).
Or at least speed up everything recently touched/used or used the most but most of all whats active @ any given time.
3. I want to setup caching for EACH drive OR at least all HDD's and then set it up in specific manner where the Page Files storage and read location FOR each drive cache/page File can be setup/altered.
This resulting in less stress for SSD's writes AND high speeds overall.
Policy/profile where Reading of files goes in following order; RAM>SSD's>HDD's, Writing policy/profile to a storage I am not that sure of this since MANY ways of doing that can lead to loss of data)
4. Utilize RAM for Caching to a point where it dynamically assigns (part of) the free RAM to a Caching needed Task, accordingly to setup/active profiles.
(when gaming obviously I want the rest to be kept alive but barely using resources)
Firefox utilizing up to +60% CPU and up to 3GB of RAM.
The RAM I can miss, it speeds up Firefox and keeps track of activity and prevent loss of work on termination, shutdown of system and crash of browser or system.. (with 50-200+ tabs open it can get very sluggish or even unresponsive possibly unstable....already now, even more with using less memory)
The CPU is a different story, I suspect scripting or other Firefox/browsing related settings are causing instability and CPU hogging, spikes are high averaging somewhere 15-35% when active even when in the background/minimized or open window but not the selected one.
All together give it back the (nearly) the speed of a fresh install and improve spread of load and user experienced response times of the whole system.
I also have an issue with a CPU being on the small side so am also looking for way to;
Offload some CPU processing power to the GPU's 1x EVGA GTX980(SC) with 4 or 6GB...not sure,...
I am afraid additional 2 GB never shown up and it's displaying wrong GPU, Firmware update IF that's the case?
Can it easily be checked some way how?
It's a VERY big pain for me but I CAN see the backside PCB in case if needed)
I got and old EVGA GTX470 stock I wanna utilize.
Hardware list;
Displays;
Mains/1; TV Sharp 32' HDMI display clock running @ 865Hz.
(Auto Max refresh/Hz mode for unsupported or exceeding refresh rates, over-ruling internal image compensation and banning out latency from internal components functioning as "Dumb Display Panel" driven by GPU)
(TV/display reboots/turns off/on few times per 24h, not a big deal for me, also got 5 or 6KW AC nowadays so it barely ever will get really hot like it used to with summers and efficient PC air cooling it used to be heating room/appartment to 35 to over way 40 degrees Celcius)
Secondary Display/2; Medion Flat Pro...I think 19" VGA port of second gen. 60Hz running @ 75Hz.
(Not latest ones supporting relatively speaking very high resolutions and little higher Hz then back then @ times of Release for sale)
CPU; 1st Gen. Intel Core i7 950 1366 Socket (Fully detailed info on overclock would be nice)
(990x minimum upgrade planned., Or I am forced to go with nearly/almost whole new system....that would mean a system as future proof or better then I had) #^*>>>>
RAM; 24GB DDR3 1866Mhz (not sure of timings)
(planned to be used for active caching, especially (and even more then currently planned) if I find a way to utilize GPU's to assign CPU task/Offload 'partial' CPU tasks)
Motherboard Asus Rampage III / 3
(stock non-fan low-profile chip-set pipe cooler, large one fan cooled probably being installed in (far) future with 990x CPU that's planned, then ill cut up some of the Noctua cool block slightly shorter)
Reasonably good airflow in case, may in future place 5 fans on CPU block, already got 3 or 4 around, 2 or 3 in case on/near CPU block.
(Angled pressure quiet Noctua 5 fan push/Pull, more silent then super high speed fans, still low temps)
Storage set(up);
1x PCI-e SSD; (Main OS currently)
Revodrive 3 240GB (Not sure if it is a Revo 3 240GB x2)
1x SATA 6G SSD; (secondary OS drive, too small for my taste just like the Revo 3)
Samsung Pro 240GB
2x 2TB Seagate Black (Wanting to speed RAID this)
1x 3TB Seagae ...I think green not sure.
1x 1TB Seagate Probably Green.
Optical Drives;
DVD...no clue which one, fastest/latest one @ sytem build, probably still top (10 or) 5 fastest ones to date.
Wireless.
Wi-Fi; Asus AC-68.
(Looking back I wish I bought the more future proof larger version, Tho VERY good range after proper setup, now even allows bluetooth co-op/friendly mode, tho to MANY a waste of money to go future proof that much and that far)
Nice Card after installing specific manufacturer drivers for the Wi-Fi chipset.
Don't quote me on this one, could be wrong but the larger version has 2 (combined) Wi-Fi MIMO chip-sets if I am not mistaking allowing to be used as 2 virtually separate devices after setup.
Bluetooth; Asus Mobo default bluetooth, **** on range but dous work, works best on Testing bed/bench. (low signal strenght)
Power Supply: Cooler Master Silent Pro 1000W Fully modular. (Might end up in next system some day)
Case: Full Aluminum Lian-Li Case,
Dunno the exact part nr. (Something with PC-7R), 4 rubber damped drive cases, 5 front Bays, 2 rubber grommet protected large water loop holes(been hesitating since beginning to hybrid Cool my case with radiators + water blocks on most of which I would mount air cooling... with Mobile AC I can super chill the main high flow radiators with Push-radiator-Pull/Push-Radiator-Pull and then be the first with super cooled hybridly cooled system), MoBo BARELY fits in case....don't ask how but it eventually did...took them whole day of trial and error and 12 fitting attempts.
(Fun fact; I already can heat my room with snow outside with the efficiency the air cooling is already working at/on ATM, with local heaters turned off of course, efficient hybrid cooling would allow to even chill the room in Spring/Summer and have more efficient heating in Fall/Winter season)
Audio: 2x..................10W Sony stereo 15+ year old Op Amp. powered speakers.
(I am a true Audio phile by nature and SOoo ashamed of this ;-)
Currently In-Active and Non-Functional Harman Kardon AVR 360 + HKTS16BQ/230.
(Sub need overhaul, AVR hopefully only re-install/update of Firmware)
Keyboards;
Razer Deathstalker Ultimate.
(Fun and usefull when it all works smoothly, and you use it all...not worth THAT much as it costed me, rather have went-with/bought the R.A.T series)
Microsoft Wireless Entertainment Keyboard.
Mouses;
Razer Death Stalker, it is one for those that didn't mind the troubleshoot and had some patience....
But it still goes strong after over 10K ours of mostly intense use, the only minus is the nylon cord had to be slightly thicker but mostly softer and triple or at least double layer braided nylon.
(with thicker nylon it would be more comfortable to use with cord manager/holder and would needed a feet of extra Cord)
Loving it!, probably would not have minded the RAT, possibly may have liked it more knowing what I do now.
Missing is a aditional parrt with different back end (butt) design like many other comfy mouses of razer have + back adjustable system and design on mouse is less comfy to handle for my couch setup...dunno about desk)
Should be enough to Kick off with.
Hail and Thanks in advance to all those helping.
It will help me and most likely many others wanting to use there older hardware to good use.
Greetings JimDijkstra86NL aKa Jimmy ;-D
#^*>>>> ((64BG RAM and most likely more supported as max. RAM on Motherboard, prob. latest gen. 2011 socket, most likely with support for Intel i7 and server CPU and ECC RAM....gimme 512GB ram now + high GHz(-i7) above demand for high nr of (physical) cores and I'll fill the RAM over 80% almost daily))
------------------------Not relevant, just partially explains how I managed to utilize 512 GB------------------------
((Had a system for a loner for about I think a month, 4 HUGE GPU's, 512GB ECC RAM, some High freq cores CPU's 2x Xeon, at that time periods fastest PCI-e 3.0 x16 storage....some crazy amount of TB's but most of all ir had crazy NRs on the IOPS, and 2x latest Asus Wi-Fi card.....
I got someone to duplicate my in-efficient setup/ OS-install and managed to utilize the RAM in matter of days ;-).......Storage really IS the fastest RAM ;-D
I played a whole night on building across the street, 6 FHD 12Bits color(high end, like HDR) Beamers with high Lumen output, played wired and wireless across controls as well as networking just for the heck of it.
(Yes Beamers had a low latency output mode and was tested and used)
How I managed to ustilized the rest?, had a contact "not ot be named" who provided a testing pilot...max. potential bandwidth on ISDN cable thats normallu used down the streets in splitter box to provide houses with phone and isdn/adsl, we had a very fat one there in the building, I thank aprox as thick if not slightly fatter then my risk....so system also became server to test that how much could be pulled from such a cable by bonding ended up with huge spikes, once more stable I think it went little above 20Gbit/s...unaffordable but nice speeds for future and no more then 75 devices on site ;-D...))
Later they figured out how much TB was written to the storage devices.....it made them laugh when they looked at my setup, fastest they had ever seen, 3 secs and they where in ANY mode/map of ANY BF series game on there multi Gb/s wireless connection ;-P.....)))
Told them so..."It Can be Done", I said as reply on "A consumer would never fully Utilize such High end server properly to dignify it's usage, I did and how, own situation I would have ran servers over the fixed IP I had. ;-D
