I got an i7 970 looking to OC to 4.0 - 4.2 and have had no luck overclocking more than 2-3 hours of prime blend test. I used an 920 oc to 3.8 with 200 blck and 19 multiplier with 1.4 vcore, +200 vtt, dram at 1.65 with auto for all other voltages since I bought it in 2010. It's 12 hr blend test prime stable.

Can anyone please provide some options, ideas or template for me to follow from others who had success over clocking their 970? I would greatly appreciate it! The prime test just takes so long to do 12 hrs blend test. But I know it's the best test to prove stability. I just ran 4 passes of memtest too. The memory is good.

I have found Intelburn Test V2 to be the fastest for a stable Intel CPU test.

That is me in the picture, anyone else ever pet a live Lion?

What is the multiplier and bclock you're trying to use with your 970?

    +1...

20 runs using "All" memory is what I always used in my X58 days.  Keep an eye on core temps during the run.  You'd need a decent aftermarket CPU cooler as well.

I wanted to check the consistency of intel burn test to prime 95 on stock setttings. Intel standard and maximum test both past. However, prime95 gave a fatal error? Is prime outdated these days or intel? I haven't had the need to run prime for years. I run task manager performance, real temp gt and evga eleet while checking with the stress test. I noticed there was a current elder version download on the website. Albeit, once installed it said it could not load. So I use an older version of it.

I don't know what issue you're having with Prime or why it's giving you the fatal error, but when I was running my X58 E770 with the i7-950, I never saw an error or BSOD after I ran IBT at the highest setting for 20 runs.  I considered my system to be stable and never had an issue.

Maybe a difference in Prime versions?  Maybe a difference between running on Win10 vs Win7?  Maybe another member running a similar setup as yours can shed some light on that.
