I'm just about to buy this MOBO for my setup which will include a AOI and Hue+, but I'm seeing that instead of having two USB 2.0 headers as listed in online specs, that there's actually only one? Can someone confirm?

one usb 2.0 and two usb 3.0, two ports per header. you can get a 2.0 to 3.0 adapter to use usb 2.0 internal devices if you need them like i did.

So the product description features a mistake. That's unfortunate.

I'll either have to get a different motherboard (because I don't want one less 3.0 header) or pick up the NZXT header extender. Darn, more spending. EVGA, maybe fix this and inform retailers?

Z270 only supports up to 14 USB connections. Up to 10 can be at USB 3.0 speeds. All using XHCI instead of the older EHCI which would support Windows 7.

Two of them are used for internal connections, leaving 12 to expose to users.

The 3.1 ports are off a third party controller.

Short of adding yet another USB controller to their board, there's no way for them to have 2 USB 2.0 headers.

Just did more digging. So I could get by using an adapter for the 3.0 header because just one suits my needs for the two top mounted ports on the case.

That said, still looks like there's an issue here. The product specs are incorrect if there's only one 2.0 header versus the two advertised.

Looks like it was a typo, im in the same boat, i have only 2 3.0 ports on my case and 2 2.0 ports and i need 1 2.0 header for my corsair link stuff, so i ordered the 3.0 to 2.0 cable adapter since i had a extra 3.0 header, to bad i wont get the full speed from those ones but it more of a case limitation than anything.

The NZXT internal hub went back online on Amazon, which will let me extend the one 9 pin 2.0 header into 3 (cooler, Hue + and front mount ports). If it doesn't fully work and I don't get the 3.0 header adapter, worst case I miss out on two front mounted USB 2.0 ports.

The S340 Elite PSU shroud seems like it's going to block the far right down facing 3.0 header on this motherboard. Shame, but maybe I can simply power tool the thing to make more clearance...

Nice! I got mine from the same Amazon seller. Hoping it gets here by Friday so I can build my new PC for the weekend.

I'm a little concerned that with the hub that brings the total count to USB access points beyond 14, but that's only an issue if I try to use all 14 access points right? I can have more access points than supported as long as I'm not using them all at the same time?

With a Self Powered USB Hub you should not see any issues.

    Perfect. Thanks for the note.

Really glad I found out this info prior to receiving the FTW K. Outside of this little misunderstanding, it's got the features and minimalist looks I really wanted.

    Thanks for the link
One of the problems with the EVGA CLC 280 Liquid CPU Cooler is the USB 2 control Plug take over both USB ports on the MB header. ( uses one and blocks the other)

You could use a small add on adapter ( much like we do with fan headers) to get back ONE USB 2.0 port but this hub is a much cleaner way to go

You'll be fine. 14 ports isn't a hard limit, it's just what the z270 motherboard chipset supports natively for full speed ports. They can have up to 14 ports off the motherboard chipset, up to 10 running at *full* 5Gbps USB 3.0 speeds and the rest running at *full* 480Mbps USB 2.0 speeds.

The only con-side to using a hub like this is if you have really high bandwidth USB 2.0 devices. The NZXT hub works over 2 USB 2.0 connections so you can have a total of 960Mbps through it, split into two groups of 480Mbps, and connected devices are put into one group or the other.

Meaning if you were doing something silly like trying to plug in two DisplayLink video adapters into it you're going to run into trouble, but for most internal accessories and flash drives and stuff you should be absolutely fine.

Woo! Amazon says I'll have the Hub and the mobo by Wednesday, completing my new build.

Not a typo, each USB header can support 2 USB ports max. There are 2 USB 3.0 headers and one USB 2.0 header, so the quantifier is specifying how many additional PORTS you can have NOT how many headers.

10 more days for mine - - did you get the last one  :-(
Actually down 3 USB ports as the EVGA DG-87 case shares a USB-3 port to support K boost and internal fan speeds
Ah the old days when we actually got a circuit diagram.

There is no mistake on the description of the motherboard, as other have stated, it lists the number of supported ports, not the number of headers.

...an untrammeled flow of words in an open forum.

Update now that I have the USB hub - turns out the ports go by the order of the back 2.0 ports to the headers, so from right to left. I reached my limit of devices before I could get my Hue + configured, because activity is being reserved for the ports instead of the headers. Kinda bummed, but will go ahead and get a 3.0 - 2.0 header converter. Should this work?

Got mine the other day and it gave me back my top of case two USB-2 ports. ( DG-78)
I only needed a slow USB-2 port for my APC UPS

AND as I only looked at  the amazon link for this part -  I overlook were were talking about NZXT

They would know a thing or two about fan cooling   headers :-)
That was a VERY well designed and packaged device

Any reason why I randomly get 5 post code beeps but still boot to OS with no problem? I guess either my keyboard doesn't always register fast enough, or my video card isn't?

some of those beeps are just USB init and it is harder now with the new motherboards to tell the beep grouping ie was it a real 5 beep error or a delayed other beep.

I get more beeps after adding extra USB items ( hub-UPS cable , ect)

One part of the manual suggest watching the POST CODE lights more as the sound beeps are getting harder to detect.
(or in my case trying to figure out what they are telling me)

I had to use slow-mode video on my phone to watch booting to see the fast changing LED codes and to slow the beep sounds that were giving long and short beep sounds ( I thought I was getting  international Morse code)

you may have already tried this but boot a few time and see that happens with all or less USB connections and try one of the other BIOS switch positions as a double check.
