Man I wish computers would be more nice to me.

Got a brand new laptop on Black Friday because I needed a computer for school, old one was slow beyond use.
Spent $500 and got an HP laptop, the specs looked good so I went for it.
7th gen i7 7500U, 8GB of DDR4, Windows 10, Touchscreen.

However when I got it, it just felt extremely slow, its just been getting slower and slower, i've already deleted some of the bloatware, i've already turned off things such as Windows Search and Superfetch...
This thing is painful to use.
Anyone have any idea why a brand new computer with the specs such as mine is struggling to run the most basic tasks? It lags and hangs using Chrome, Word, startup, etc...

After I did some updates my Touchscreen no longer works. I needed to update some things because the Wifi kept consistently dropping every 15 minutes or so.
Can't restore as there is no restore point....

Which driver should I install from the manufacturers website that should make the touchscreen work again?

I noticed when I look in device manager and the Human Interface Devices its only showing a "Wireless Radio control" and "HP Wireless button driver" its not detecting the touchscreen...

Having an HP laptop you should only download their approved or certified drivers from their Website.
AMD High-Definition (HD) Graphics Driver & Intel High-Definition (HD) Graphics Driver

"After I did some updates my Touchscreen no longer works." What Updates? Windows? Or Drivers?

Is HP Support not helping you?

You may have to do a System Re-Image back to the OEM Org Install and start over.

Does your laptop have a SSD or an HDD?  If it's an HDD, I would re-enable Superfetch/Prefetch.

They were some chipset drivers and wifi drivers.

I got the touchscreen to work again, I just had to go into the USB devices and change it to a different one. I'm not sure how the fix works, but i'm not questioning it haha.

It has an HDD so i'll reenable superfetch, I was getting that annoying bug where sometimes the disk usage goes to 100%... still happens :/

This thing has always been annoyingly slow

After using any of our desktop PC's then going to my wife's older laptop, it can feel like you went back in time 20 years with how slow it is...

Replacing the spinning HD with a SSD will make the laptop more responsive and battery should last longer, due to less HD power required

It made a big difference on my HPPav18. The 256GB size is big enough, if you want to keep cost down

Yeah I was unsure if it was the HDD causing it to be slow.
Going from my desktop to my laptop is like trying to operate a potato.

It legitimately honestly slow, it freezes doing the most simple things

HDD's can feel pretty sluggish after being used to running on SSD's, but what you're describing above sounds like something else going on.

After purchasing it, I would recommend plugging it in, turning it on, setting up your account, and leave it running over night unused. Let Windows do its thing and update. It will be really slow for the first day or two as Windows downloads and installs updates.

After you have messed with it, after it is now worse, after you now have more problems, I would recommend doing a reinstall of the OS and let Windows do its thing next time before you try to tweak it.

+1 let Windows update run Except the reinstall in Win 10 ---> Instead do this:  Windows 10 tip: Reset your PC completely

Heat can also be an enemy of speed, I use a Cooler Master, USB powered laptop cooler to keep the CPU cold as possible

I also Kill indexing the HD, it is a resource Hog and slows the PC when it runs --> I know where I put my files, don't need it

Have you run a security scan?  What software do you use ?  Malwarebytes Anti-Malware free version is a good choice

If you have Anniversary Version 1607 of Win 10 --> turn Off the Xbox DVR, it is On by default

I definately feel like something is off with the laptop, I know it won't have instant response like my desktop, but it legitimately freezes frequently, hangs and lags really badly.

I let the windows updates run when I first got it, it just progressively got slower... Its frustrating to use this laptop at times.

I might just do a clean install of windows to get rid of all the bloatware, but I don't want that to void my warranty (ill have to check)

I'm probably gonna RMA this thing soon, I might've received it defective.
I started hearing some concerning sounds with the hard drive early on in its life. Recently I'm starting to hear more hard drive failure sounds. Hearing a little short buzzing from the disk, this morning ive been hearing the heads clicking repeatedly.

I think we're in the same situation,i have been using the HP laptop for 3 years (Windows 7) ,But when it comes to problems, I think the cause of the laptop hard disk or the system ,
I don't know anything about hard drives, so i have tried to upgrade Windows , However, if you don't know as much about computers as I do, it's not advisable to update the system alone, which can cause unexpected problems, perhape the data or login password on the laptop can be remove , before doing so , you need backup data and remove password from your Hp laptop ,

Sounds like you don't have an ssd. That could be a large part of the problem. Buy one of those and pop it in there and your general operating speed will shoot up like mad.
