A few months ago I was suffering from keyboard lag in Fallout 4 with my GTX 970 SLI. Pressing and releasing keys took a random time (up to several seconds) to register and short presses were often ignored completely. It was at its worst when GPU load was high. In graphically less demanding games such as War Thunder the issue was not severe but it still happened.

I finally decided to try uninstalling Precision X after weeks of frustration and the issue was instantly fixed. No such issue existed when using MSI Afterburner.

I upgraded to GTX 1070 SLI and on a fresh Windows install started using Precision XOC, hoping the issue had been fixed. At first I didn't notice any issues while playing War Thunder. Then I launched Rise of the Tomb Raider and the issue hit me hard. Even in the game menus the kayboard lag was crippling. It made the menus extremely unresponsive and the game itself pretty much unplayable.

Then I remembered what helped the last time and took the same steps to correct the issue. I uninstalled Precision XOC and installed MSI Afterburner. The issue was gone.

This really is a shame as I would prefer using Precision X due to the better graphs and UI overall.

Is this issue known and are steps taken to correct it? Why is it taking so long? Are you having trouble reproducing the issue?

Just wanted to say Thank You. Never would have thought Precision would be the culprit to an input lag issue...

After a couple days of trying to figure out why I had so much input lag from my keyboard in the Rise of the Tomb Raider, uninstalling EVGA Precision XOC has solved my issue.

I also like the UI and graph layout of the EVGA software better than Afterburner, but after this, I may have to stick with Afterburner...

Someone on a Finnish forum said he had the same issue but closing the hardware monitor window was enough to stop the issue. That doesn't help me as it is the main reason why I'd like to use the program instead of MSI Afterburner.

I have the exact same issue with my EVGA 1080 FTW SLI setup. After about an hour or so of gaming I start to get keyboard lag. It is really frustrating. Does MSI Afterburner allow you to change the LEDs on the EVGA FTW cards?

    Operating System: Windows 10
    CPU: Intel 6700K 4.00 GHz
Motherboard: Asus Rog  Maximus VIII Hero Alpha

I'm getting heavy keyboard input lag also on my 7700k GTX 1080Ti sli setup. I have the separate monitor window open as well displayed on my secondary 1080p monitor. As soon as I close XOC then the lag is gone. I'll try closing the separate window to see if that helps next time I game. I'm running the latest version of precision also (6.1.11) Afterburner doesn't have this issue either. Strange...

You can use Precision to set you LEDs, then never run it again if you don't want to. Unless you want to change your LEDs of course. The card will retain whatever setting you select for the LEDs, even if you close Precision completely and never open it again. So just set your LEDs, set Precision to not run at system Start Up, and fully close Precision from the system tray. Then go and run Afterburner however you want.

You can also safely run both Precision and Afterburner at the same time, I'm forced to as a 1080 FTW2 owner with the iCX cooling. I set any overclocks, LEDs and fan curves via Precision, and sadly have to keep Precision running to maintain those fan curves, but use Afterburner with RivaTuner for it's MUCH better OSD and monitoring. So long as you don't create any conflict, such as have automatic fan control enabled in both programs at the same time, or attempt to apply an overclock with both programs, everything runs perfectly fine.

Look at my join date and ownership history before you try telling me I'm not a real fan of EVGA. I even bought the damn hat.

As far as Ive been able to figure out, you only need to use percision x once to configure your LEDs. Then you dont need to start up percision x anymore, the lights will stay as you set them. The only thing is , Im not sure if your card comes with 3 led indicator lights that change color and you can set them to monitor thermals. They no longer work for me without perciosion x running but the front and top LED's do. They only stay one color they dont actually change with the thermals like they did before. This is on a  1080ti FTW3. Also, I have expericnced slightly higher temps with afterburner because only percision x gives me the ability to control all 3 fan curves individually. I belive afterburner only lets me control one fan and the others work on the default fan curve. But this is alla  small trade off to not have the god forsaken keyboard lag. I noticed it in Metro 2033 redux. EVGA, if you are going to force the use of Percision X then fix thant hunk of junk already...

I reinstalled precision and thought these issues were fixed but came to a conclusion (at least for my setup) that showing the graph information on precision caused my keyboard input to lag.

it sucks because I wouldnt mind ditching msi afterburner. Unfortunately Percision xoc is really only good for benchmarks. Keyboard lag is in excusable. It can cost you bigh time in games. Even if my card burns up and melts I will still have to pick msi over keyboard lag.

I am testing this in battlefield 4. as far as I can tell right now closing the hardware monitor does fix the issue. (as far as I can tell)
however I share your grief. in Fallout 4 , ENB's disable your OSD. So I need the monitor to make sure my vram isnt leaking. Anyway

Re: Precision X / XOC Keyboard Lag 2017/11/25 11:10:06 (permalink)
Ok, this is getting out of hand, it's already November and there still isn't a fix for this?

I have deactivated the automatic startup of Precision with Windows. Because each time I start it, my keyboard doesn't work for like 30 seconds until the program starts, plus it is the program that uses the most CPU-time during idle. I could very well go without using it but when the EVGA software doesn't load, both fans on my GTX 1080 (SC2) are stopped, even during light gaming. Only after 56C/135F do fans begin to run.

While trying to use MSI Afterburner, all is good, very low CPU and memory usage, the only problem is that it only controls one of my fans, while the other is again stopped.

I chose EVGA because my previous video card lasted 8 years (9800 GTX+) - currently still working and under warranty. Please fix your software issues because this is getting out of hand.

    Details:
    Win 10 64bit
    Keyboard: Corsair K95 RGB
    MB: Asrock Fatal1ty P67 Professional
    CPU: Core i7-2600K

I would prefer to keep my card cool, fans always on at about 20-25%, because anyway I can't really hear them at such low speeds. If this doesn't get fixed I don't care, I will use your card without your fans running, if it breaks, it breaks. Warranty is 3 years. I mean... if the card is configured like that, so be it, plus I wouldn't be able to tell if I didn't have a glass panel on the PC case.
Though if it *does* break, then next one sure won't be the same brand.

I just wanted to add that I was getting keyboard lag shortly after startup due to XOC. I don't use the hardware monitor interface, so I didn't notice any lag during gaming, but it was driving me crazy on boot. I've uninstalled XOC for now and the problem is gone. I'll be following along as I'd like to use the software in the future if this bug is ever fixed.

I'd been having this issue for quite a while and never could put my finger on it's cause until this evening I sat down to troubleshoot the issue. I eventually narrowed it down to PrecisionX and came here to post but found this thread. It's even worse on my Alienware laptop which runs a 1080ti FTW3 in the Graphics Amp.

I wish I would've seen this before making a new thread, but yeah I'm getting it while playing Rainbow 6 Siege with my Razer Blackwidow X Chroma.

Really would love to keep using Precision X, but it's not playable with it on.

It's not like since last reply which was months ago, no official answer to this issue have been given to fix this. There is a big problem in the program they ship with their hardware, that's not abusive to bump a thread which needs answer still, and with no replies since months.

I found thread dated of years with this problem, so officially we have to stop bumping the thread, because this problem is ignored since that long? really? sad :(

EVGA Precision XOC causes massive keyboard lag on Windows 10.  I like EVGA hardware but their software is not good.

    Use MSI Afterburner instead.

I made a tutorial on how to set it up here.
