I hope that EVGA Has their model up by the 27th. Cause I would really like to start building my new rig soon but I am not paying an extra 100 bucks for the Founders edition. Rather place that into some extra stuff for my build!

I'll buy the cheapest version that works with reference-design waterblocks.  I don't need the vapor chamber whatever bull(Deleted for Foul Language) so I'm not going to pay $100 more for it.

Bingo.  For the average user that's all you need.  Most OCing only nets you a few extra numbers in a benchmarks and a little real world improvement in my opinion.

For 100% clarification then.

All the other brands selling the "Founder's Edition" is the Nvidia's reference/Founder's edition but with just packaging of their brand?

Ex. On EVGA's GTX 1080 Founder's Edition is just Nvidia with EVGA box packaging and warranty instead of Nvidia?

Who in their right mind would buy from Nvidia then? Is there something I am missing?

Same thing happened with the X, NV just had better availability than the other AIB's so a lot of people bought direct.  I personally wouldn't go that route because I need next day cross shipping availability for RMA's, which only EVGA offers.

Those who wants to run sli aircooled benefits from the founders edition since the hot air goes out the back instead of inside the case
And those who likes that cooler :)

Founders = Reference.

I think the pricing has to do with GDDR5x not being in full production, GDDR5x implementation requires lots of R&D and PC-gaming market is really small (for GDDR5x). Pure speculation on my part.

I'm fairly certain all 1080's will have GDDR5x, including any $599 versions that are built.

I would imagine they are under a NDA and can't post those yet.  Perhaps just before or just after.

I don't understand...why keep aib's under NDA when Nvidia officially launched the card already.

Hype and anticipation build?  It's pretty much the way it always is with both AMD and Nvidia.  It isn't anything new by any means.  The NDA for the Founder's Edition isn't even over for another three days.

What use is knowledge if there is no understanding?~Stobaeus

I was thinking more about simple supply and demand and manufacturer limitations.

Buyer:  - We want X of those for Y money within Z days.
Manufacturer: - We can make X*0,9 of those for Y*1,25 money within Z days because [reasons].
Then negotiations and suddenly the first batch of final product is pushed out faster at a much higher expense.

Our information currently shows that we will offer the Founder's Edition cards on the launch day May 27th. We will likely have other versions of the 1080 in the future, but we do not know yet when those will be released. Keep an eye on the forums and EVGA.com for any announcements we make about non-reference cards.

I want one to replace my GTX 970 SSC with a 1080 but the founders doesnt seem likea solid investment, as EVGA SSC versions will be tweaked and have a better cooler.
The sooner the info the sooner I can spend money, you do like money EVGA? I want to give you money, but not for a founders card, which most people will probably also want to. So it's in your favor to tell us more asap!

Explained and contested in this video.. https://youtu.be/bNCfn4y8dBw
This is pretty simple for me to understand... The Founders Edition card, simply put, is the "reference" card with Nvidia's custom designed premium cooler and backplate.. <-That's it, no fancy clocks, no "extra" headroom for overclocking... And for that it will be $100 over MSRP.. The irritating part for me is that partners are only showing us the founders edition card available on the 27th.

As for me, its not worth it because I water-cool.  So that "custom premium cooler and backplate" is coming off anyway, why should I pay the extra $100??.... Its looking like I will have to wait for the MSRP card - Or a SC card (I'm willing to pay a little extra for a factory overclock)..

Case Labs TH10, Rampage IV Extreme, Core i7 4930k @ 4.6ghz, 16gb Corsair Dominator GT @2133, 2x GTX 780Ti SC 3gb, Sound Blaster Zx, Corsair AX1200, Aquaero 5 Pro

Custom water cooling, dual loop, all acrylic tubing.

I'll wait for EVGA 1080SC to arrive, pick up two & a couple EK blocks.  They've served me well.  (Maybe I'll live dangerously by adding a 3rd and see how the software key works.)
Those who want the cards first always pay a premium, for me it just doesn't seem worth it.

Just read this thread over on the Hard Forums:

"NVIDIA has just informed me that Founders Edition cards will be available at the same time as AIB partner cards. The MSRP + $100 pricing still stands, it just seems now you will not have the option of getting the FE a week or two before AIB cards."

There are very few possibilities that I haven't already seen someone speculate on, or claim to have insider knowledge of.

I personally would never buy a card for that price if it didn't have a transferable warranty.

So the FE GPU that EVGA is currently offering on the 27th doesn't come with EVGA's standard warranty?

Dunno where I saw, and I may be wrong, but I don't know if there ever will be a $599 card. I think that's the OEM cost to AIB partners ie nvidia is selling the chips to EVGA at that price. So EVGA with their own cards/coolers will sell it higher than $599 assuming they want to break even and make at least some profit.

$599 is the MSRP.  There will be cards at that price, but it remains to be seen how good they'll be.
In this case MMRP (Manufacturers Minimum Retail Price,) would probably be more accurate.  nVidia sets the price floor for these.

CPU: i7 5820k
GPU: 970 SC (soon to be 1080 ACX)
Displays: BenQ W7000, HTC Vive
Storage: 2x 1TB SSD's, 2x 300GB Velociraptors and a 3TB 7200 RPM drive (no RAID)
RAM: 32GB

Hi,

At the moment, there is no information available about which video cards will be available for step-up or when. I recommend checking back on May 27th when the 1080's are released.

-Gabe.S

Found this in another post today. Looks like maybe multiple 1080's will be released on May 27
