Hello!  I am looking to do a build with the x99 FTW K and was wondering if the m.2 steps still apply or has it been adjusted in a BIOS release.  Meaning does it just recognize it or should I still do these steps?  Thanks!

I own the classified version which is about the same as yours, and you should follow this guide to get your m.2 drive to be recognized.

I always do 125 blk then core multi 36.  This works at 1.375v with 150 offset for me with 5820K and my 6950X to get 4.4Ghz on ea. m   I;ve gone as high as 4.6Ghz on all cores on the 6950X but after running prime 95 a few times in a row, the motherboard's PCH died and so did the bios 1.

On the 5820K nothing above 4.5 was stable, and 4.5 was just too hot to use on passive air cooling. (I hate making noise, my PC is dead silent and uses a NH-D15 and a single 15" Noctua an with 2 low noise adapters...)
my temps are usually 40C-50C. Upwards of high 70's when gaming.

I have tried everything but my m.2 drive won't show up on my X99 FTW K. I think the m.2 slot is not working.

Hello RECLUSERICK, and welcome to the forums! When using an M.2 on an X99 motherboard, make sure that it's an NVMe drive and not SATA. Unfortunately none of our boards will support a SATA M.2, as there are no connections to the SATA controller. Let us know the model M.2 drive you're using, and we should be able to determine if this may be the case.

Sorry to see your having an issue with your MB seeing the M.2 drive

Since your in this thread, you should have followed all the steps listed, so what now you are asking ?

Step 1 - Make sure the M.2 is fully / properly seated

Step 2 - confirm your BIOS settings

Step 3 - in the X99 MB section of the Forum - start a New Post, request for help, so we do not derail this thread; make sure you list your PC parts and what OS, create a useful / engaging title to catch the eye of those whom many be able to assist you

Thanks for the help. It is a Sata m.2 drive and not a nvme m.2.

This is, unfortunately, incorrect MelonGx. The Classified, FTW K and Micro 2 all support NVME exclusively, and do not support SATA M.2s.

But why the manual said Classified's M.2 sharing a Gen2 PCIe slot?

The Classified uses PCIE NVMe, and not SATA.

OK I quit the discussion since you avoided answering why the Classified's manual saying the M.2 shared a Gen2 PCIe slot. This made it similar to a PCH-based M.2.

I'm sorry if I wasn't clear enough. Yes, the Classified's M.2 runs on PCH; in this case, however, it's limited to PCIE 2.0 speeds, and is not capable of using SATA. Most early X99 boards were exactly the same; we made some changes to the Micro 2 that allowed it to use CPU lanes instead of PCH, but both are still only capable of using PCIE M.2s.

I'm trying to get my windows to recognize my Samsung m2 drive. I have the X99 Classified. When I enable UEFI, my regular SATA drive, which has windows installed on it, is not recognized anymore, and I do not have the UEFI hidden menu to enable Windows boot manager. Any help is greatly appreciated.

You will need UEFI to recognize your M.2 drive. Do you wish to boot from that drive? I recommend a fresh install so use a Windows USB drive or Windows DVD if you have a DVD drive. When the BIOs is set to UEFI and then you install Windows this will create the Windows Boot manager. That will be your primary boot device.

Most likely you will, you should do a fresh install of the OS in use and is also noted in the Post above #47.
