Hi all,

I've search the forum and have not found this exact question, but based on some similar MB questions I've seen, it seems like this should work.

I'd like to run a Xeon W3690 processor in my (X58 SLI) 132-BL-E758-A1 MB, rev 1.1, Bios 83.
It's basically the Xeon equivalent of the i7-990X.
I see many posts about my MB would need the Westmere mod (moving a tiny surface mount resistor) to support some of the Westmere X5nnn processors, but no mention if this mod is needed to support the W3690 or if the mod is not needed.
And I have also see other web site say this CPU should work.  So, I thought I would come to the EVGA forums for the final answer.  It would be nice to get a EVGA support to comment, but if someone out there has done this, please chime in.

I picked up a W3690 used and tried it out.  The MB powers up, but no display, the led code is FF.
So, I am back on my i7-920 for now.

Any words of wisdom here?  Should this work as is?  Or do I need the mod?

Thanks all.

The resistor mod is required for your board since it's a Rev 1.1, if you had a Rev 1.2 it would work natively.

Since I did not register my MB 5 years ago when I got it, I did the mod myself.
I took some solid core wire, wrapped it around the end of my soldering iron, filed the ends to a couple of sharp tips, and bent the wires so they were the perfect distance to get both sides of that tiny resistor.

I got it moved, it's not pretty, but it's moved and in place at R539.  Man that was some tiny soldering.
The used Xeon W3690 processor I picked up for $220, is running great.  And it did need the mod to run.

This will do just fine for good while.
Thanks.

I can confirm that Xeon W3690 will run on a 132-bl-e758 Rev 1.0 after completing the Westmere Mod. I completed the mod 2 days ago and the machine is completely stable with the Xeon W3690. (even slightly overclocked)

Hi, everybody.
Recently purchased W3690. But when installing in the motherboard, I get the post-code FF. Read here, a lot of people write that you need a Westmere MOD with a resistor re-soldering. My motherboard is EVGA 4X SLI Classified (170-BL-E762) rev.1.0. So here is interested in the moment with the jumper I-limit, found information that it is responsible for the ability to install new( later(32nm?)) processors. Can it somehow help in this situation, or do you still need to re-solder one of the resistors?
