yes with 1.44-45v and air cooling i hit 80c max when i have the fans on low speed.but it runs stable you cant have it all.bought a second cpu just in case this one explode :)

you two make me wish I could clock my Dual X5690 higher but I'm limited due to my RAM, they're all diff sticks of 1333 / 1600 / 1866 / 2133 so the max I can push it is 4.15GHz, I can't complain though since these sticks of RAM were just extras I had laying around.

with 1333 ram and 1600 ram mix i was able to hit 200mhz fsb in my bro pc very easy and for sure it can go higher : https://www.modsrigs.com/detail.aspx?BuildID=40518
try 1.6+ voltage a big timing  9-9-9-24 or 10-10-10-30 see if its stable.ofcourse fsb-ram ratio to be the lowest.

159MHz FSB is the highest I can go reliably with 1.65V, I have gotten higher clocks but weird random BSOD and lock ups occur.  I just don't have the patience to disable a CPU to test each pair for max clocks, it was much easier to clock em all at once to max, dial down and stress test till rock solid stable.

I'm guessing that is just to boot into windows and get a screen shot?   I wonder what the max hard load stable OC is on these at a reasonable voltage.  IM at 4513 with 1.423V  I can boot windows @ 4.72GHZ / 1.475V but not stable for benching. Beyond that voltage I feel will rapidly degrade the chip...  Thoughts?

OC stable 4500mhz.1.36-1.375 volt for me.
HT off.

5184mhz is for a screenshot :-)

Rendering with 12 core at 4800mhz 1.45 volt.
it is winter here so no problem with the heat
In summer 4500mhz

Is this board still popular?
I have one and it has served me well for years. Works great for a cheap virtualization build.

I wouldn't say that it's popular since not many people had one to begin with but those that do, usually hold on to them since they work extremely well besides the power consumption / heat generation factors.  You can't really complain when it's almost a decade old and still holds it's own.

Re: the SR2 is still the monster again ? 2019/03/26 17:29:42 (permalink)
Hi guys, wondering if anyone can help.

I have an EVGA sr-2, I recently decided to upgrade from a 970 to a 1080ti.

I have x5675's overclocked to just under 4ghz. I have 32gb of 1333mhz ECC ram (only 24gb shows up, no idea why but that's not my issue) I'm trying to figure out why it seems I have reduced performance with the 1080ti. I feel like it should be much better than it is, in certain games I can struggle to hit 100fps, is this the limitation of the older CPUs? Or is there maybe something wrong with my setup?

I have money to potentially upgrade to x5690's and maybe get some faster RAM if that will help matters? If not I may consider selling the sr-2, because I can probably easily get back more for it than I paid. I'd rather keep it because of how awesome and different it is, but we'll see.

Just a side note I basically only use it for gaming. I have no issues with thermals, never seen it go anywhere over 80°c, runs steady at anywhere between 60-70°c. I am running a 1440p monitor at 165hz, but the 1080ti shouldn't have any issues here, and besides dropping the resolution to 1080p offers little to no difference in FPS, which is why I'm thinking this is likely CPU related.

Someone on here has said to disable HT, so I'll give that a go when I can and see if that does anything

Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Re: the SR2 is still the monster again ? 2019/03/28 13:41:18 (permalink)
HT off = 12 real cores
HT on = 12 real cores + 12 fake cores.
Cenario :
If a game use 6 cores
HT on,,3 real + 3 fake= 6 core
HT off ,, 6 real = 6 core
6 real cores is faster and than 3+3 HT.
With 12 cores =higher overclock, low heat.
With 24 HT = lower overclock, much more heat.
Rendering with cpu use HT on.
Rendering with gpus, use HT off and pump up the OC
Fastest possible DDR3 for higher bandwith when gaming.

Re: the SR2 is still the monster again ? 2019/03/28 13:47:55 (permalink)
That makes a lot of sense! Thank you lol.

I turned HT off, I got 10% of my previous Cinebench score lmao, but that's fine, it did help in games, PUBG was the worst game for me before, barely managing even 60fps at times, but now I seem to get a solid 100 fps, didn't see it dip below 90.

I don't render anything really. What sort of overclock could I expect with x5675's? I've only ever managed just shy of 4ghz before I get issues. Is this normal or should I be able to get more? I could never find any conclusive info from anyone who'd used my current CPU's, so I've sort of cobbled together an overclock but I'm pretty sure with some finer tweaking and more knowledge I could do better than 3.9ghz? Or is RAM a limitation at this point?

Again thanks for your help

I have 2 pretty beefy noctua air coolers and temps are never an issue for me anyway. Could look in to water-cooling, because I have an obsidian 900D, but I feel like I won't get much of an improvement from it.

What do you mean by DDR3 working properly? I think somebody said to get +1800mhz for best results, I have 1333 at the moment, so would this be a worthy upgrade?

Thanks again.

Best in SR-2 for cpu overclocking and stability.

Samsung ecc 8gb. 1333mhz
M393B1K70DH0-CH9Q9 M
SKJ.7842432-8.
Overclockable to over 1800mhz.

There are others in this forum that uses faster DDR3 with good result on X58
