I'm in a bit of a difficult situation here.
I want to move to LGA 2011 and buy a 4930k but, I don't have enough funds right now to do so and the only way to get that chip is to sell of my 4770k & my ASUS Maximus VI Formula.
I made the mistake of buying an X79 Classified motherboard off Ebay in new, never before used, never reigstered with EVGA condition for about $170. I believe it is a K3 model because of the "4th gen processor" support sticker on the front of the box. Now, I'm stuck with that decision after buying and learning that many have had BIOS issues with the board.
It's either I receive the board, sell it off and lose some money and go back on by decision on going with LGA 2011 or sell my 4770K and ASUS board and pray that the Classy will have no issues.
What should I do? Should I dump my hopes of moving to LGA 2011 or does anybody have any advice that will alleviate my doubts?

Yep, that is why EVGA made the X79 Dark board.

How much would it be worth? From what I've been reading, these boards can't even be given away.

How much would it be worth anyway? From what I've been reading, these boards can't even be given away.

Looks to be worth about 140-145. Does the seller on ebay allow you to return it within a certain amount of days?

I don't want to bother an honest seller. It was my mistake that I bought a known bad board (in terms of software). Seller doesn't allow returns anyway.

You can get one for $99.99 on EVGA's web site with one year warranty. WOW! Only one left, they had like 30 of them.
Not sure who told you that you cannot even give them away, You can give away yours to me.
I have two of them 3930K and 3970X and will not be selling them.
I do have an old SLI MB that I might sale but not my Classified or Dark Motherboards.
Keep It and put in a 4930K or 4960X in it.
If you need the newer Bios EVGA will send you a Bios Chip for the 49xx CPUs.

Tbh, I'm really torn on what to do. I was going to try to take advantage of the Step-Up program to get the Dark instead, but I don't have the original invoice and I don't want to pocket out any more money than I have to. Sigh.

Will EVGA be willing to help me Step-Up without the original invoice for free? I highly doubt it.

I would say no only because you got it from eBay....But still you never know.
You also only have 90 Day to Step-Up.

You can get an original invoice from eBay, you only need to ask.

Looks like I'm not eligible. Seller told me he bought the item about two 1/2 to three weeks ago and it was never registered. I'm definitely not the original owner either. Guess I'll have to sell it unless I'm able to convince someone at customer service.

Already shipped, its on its way. I'll try to ask EVGA about exchanging it for the Dark when I get it. I'll read them the serial and see where it goes from there.

    Re: X79 Classified...keep or sell? 2022/01/22 12:05:57 (permalink)
I built a new computer using the X79 Classified MB in July 2012. It was water-cooled using a Thermaltake V2 cooler. Memory is G.Skill 32 GB (4 X 8 GB) sticks, and the Video is the EVGA GTX 670.

This computer worked well until 2-days ahead of Thanksgiving in 11-2021. After that, it worked well the day before it stopped working. To get back on the air with a computer, I attempted to purchase a current EVGA motherboard and bumped into the "Out of Stock" problem.

When the computer failed to boot, I decided to take the tower apart. The first item I removed was the G.Skill memory sticks. With the first stick in my hand, I decided to see if the MB would boot on 8-GB of memory. This next step meant I needed to pull three more memory sticks and try another boot attempt.

That simple change enabled a completed boot. I didn't expect the board would boot. However, it did, which indicated a memory stick was why it wouldn't boot. To find out which memory stick is the problem, I tried all four sticks. The second stick allowed the boot, the third stick allowed a boot, but the MB slowed down. The fourth stick blocked the boot with an error code of 69. Finally, 16-GB (2 X 8 GB) installed allowed the computer ran again.

Before the boot failure, MS Office products worked, but they would stall with an edit. That same delay is still happening, and some programs stopped working. However, they still work on my EVGA X58 SLI box.

One of the most annoying issues is the Scrivener 3.1 update writing environment. When I purchased the update in September of 21, it worked fine. But, unfortunately, it won't run on the X79 MB.

When I learned the Thermaltake V2 cooler was not keeping the CPU down in the 50c range but instead allowed temps in the 80c-to 90c was a surprise.

There wasn't an easy way to add water to this water cooler. The effort and time needed to figure it out seemed silly when a replacement water cooler would get the X79 to run again in the 30c to 65c range. As I write this, the Core Temp display shows the highest temp the i7-3930K is showing is 41c. That is lower than what it had displayed before on an earlier version of the temp app. The X79 i7 chip is now cooled by EVGA's CLC 240mm All-In-One RGB LED CPU Liquid Cooler.

I've run out of ideas about what is blocking some programs from not working well or failing to run. So I need to install a known good X79 Classified MB to see if the unexpected change delay and app failure are MB failures.

For reference, the G.Skill memory group mentioned above was granted an RMA from G.Skill, and the replacement 32GB (4 X 8GB) matched group allows this posting to happen.

I found this thread when I entered "EVGA X79 Classified Motherboard For Sale" into Google. How it found the discussion is unknown. If anyone reading this knows of a good X79 Classified MB, I would appreciate knowing the availability.

I will build a new EVGA tower when the Z690 gets back in stock and some forum feedback.

    Re: X79 Classified...keep or sell? 2022/03/01 04:24:43 (permalink)
