Well, I guess the "EVGA's Advanced RMA - Cross-Ship program" is not terribly expensive relative to the price of these cards in 2021. Combine that with the fact that EVGA prices did not go up nearly as much as MSI raised theirs, and overall, their card + this "EAR" package is a better value.
That said, we don't have time to read "terms and conditions" before purchasing a card these days - we have to jump on the chance instantly, if it's online, or choose quickly if we were lucky enough to find one at a store by waiting in line before they open.
I guess I will buy an "EAR" for at least my 3090 card since it's the one that I've read about having more issues than the other 30x0 series cards.

If we live in a country where it is not legally required for the manufacturer to pay for the return shipping on the defective item, what can we do? How do you propose that we convince EVGA to change its policy?
If your video card is broken and the cheapest way to replace it is to pay for shipping, you are going to pay for the shipping, right? What is your alternative? Sue EVGA?
That is a problem, because if it's not the law, then it's hard for EVGA to provide good prices and pay for shipping both ways on RMAs (when other companies are not) - I would say: "Well, make a better product then you don't have to worry so much about that increasing your costs", but, when customers are self-installing these cards, and sometimes it's not exactly clear what caused the failure, you'll end up with some cards that are "defective" in the minds of the customers, even if it wasn't the card manufacturer's fault.
Perhaps one reason I was so startled to read that customers had to pay for shipping their defective cards was that I always tried to do "cross shipment" type RMAs - I want to get the replacement product and installed to get my PC back up and running before sending the defective one in the the company. In those cases, they always included a "prepaid return label" to the best of my knowledge. I don't know if I've ever had a single graphics card die on me, but I've seen at least a dozen hard drives die ("click of death"). And when hard drives failed, one of the reasons I liked to do the cross ship RMA was to get a suitable shipping box (the one the new drive comes in) as I had not been in the habit of saving boxes.
