Re: SR-2 - 96GB Secret Sauce 2020/08/15 04:02:14 (permalink)
Going on out on a limb here. I have been reading this and many other posts for a few months attempting 96GB. My focus now is posting 48GB first on CPU 0 and CPU 1 DIMM 1,3,5. I can post DIMM 1,3 on CPU 0 and CPU 1 and see 32GB. When I populate DIMM 5 on both CPU 0,1 it is still 32GB.

When I populate all the DIMM I get 64GB total. Any ideas on what to test? I checked all the Memeory individually in CPU 0 DIMM 1 and they are show up without errors. I attempted timings 10-10-10-28 and received a ACHI BSOD. I went back to the default timings of 9-9-9-24 and post with no problems.

I have 16 sticks of the following RAM that are exactly the same according to CPU-Z with the exception of manufacture date.

Model Name: 49Y1446
Total capacity:8GB
Capacity of the individual modules:8192MB
Max. Frequency:1333MHz
JEDEC standard:PC3-10600R
Storage type:reg ECC
Design:DIMM
Storage interface:DDR3
Tension:1.50V
Latency (CL):CL9
Particularities:Dual rank

RAM Timings is specific to model.
My samsung DDR3 are not the same as yours IBM 49Y1446.
If u cant get it to work , buy samsung.

On page 3, this is page 4
u have samsung memory that works 96GB with SR2.

My question is why can I post 32GB and 64GB reliably but not 48 or 96?

U probably already know the answer.
Outside specification is the
answer to your question.

This is my 48GB SR-2 running 12cores HT off 4600mhz and memory speed 1400mhz, it setup for low overall voltage.
So the heat is not that bad.
Works great.
Can run 1800mhz ram and 24ht cores with a lot more juice.
But the heat is to much.
Hope that u can set your 96gb ram up

I am not worried about the heat so much. My CPU clock in at 38c idle. Here is my setup
  • EVGA GE Force GTX 980 TI Hybrid, Liquid Cooled
  • HX Series ™ HX1200 - 80 PLUS® PLATINUM certified
  • 2x Alphacool Eisbaer 280 CPU
  • Deep Silence 6 Super Tower Case
I am going to run a few more bios setups. I really believe I can achieve 96GB with this RAM as it is posting above the 48GB limit of the MoBo.

Thanks for the help

Give the ram more volt,from 1.5 to1.56volt.
9-9-9-24 and run 1066mhz on memory and try.
It can take 2-3 minutes for it to start,
Sometimes bios run 3-4 memory tests before it boots up.

That did not work at all wouldn't even post even after 30 minutes. I had to clear the CMOS to get it to post. Thanks for the attempt

After a day of testing no luck. I tested every combination on here and other forums to no avail. Downgrading the Mem Freq. to 1066Mhz just goes into Memory Errors. The below is what I currently have with 64GB still posting. Of note I only populated DIMM Slots 1,2,3,4 on CPU0 and CPU1 to get 64 GB. When attempting 5 and 6 it does not work.

CPU Multiplier Setting: 26

Still nothing.

I appreciate all the help. I will stick with the 64GB not 96GB but better than 48GB

I bought Crucial CT8G3ERSLD4160B. I can only post 48GB setting the auto settings to manual. and Command Rate to 2 and Voltage to their auto settings.

Ok so I bought Aida64 and attached is a report to the memory. I was thinking initially voltage however I was briefly able to post 64GB after a CMOS clear. Now it is at 48GB only.

Sorry , havent read this whole thread. But i was having major issues with my SR-2. But I replace the ram with 6 x 8gb and now it work SOOOO WELL !!!
I've posted here a few months back with the specifics, but it was ram off Amazon and it was server ram (which made all the difference).

SR-2 / 2 x X5650 / 48Gb (6 x 8gb) / RTX 2080 super, GTX 1080Ti / Lian-Li PC-A77F

BACK on topic!
I had years ago 12x 8GB Kingston ram it worked but I couldn't OC - only OC'ed to beat a PT Gui (panoramic application (PTGUI.COM - PTGUI Speedtest  http://www.hdview.at/speedtest/results.html) record back in the day ;-) which I did and it lasted for quite some time LOL (damn, here I go ranting again!)

Re: SR-2 - 96GB Secret Sauce 2020/10/06 09:33:15 (permalink)
I already bought this Crucial RAM. I do not want to purchase a different brand.

-I pulled the CPU's on both no bent pins.
-swapped the CPU's
-Ensured not to overtighten the CPU brackets.

I populated only CPU0 all DIMM. Bios shows 32GB. CPU-Z shows 48 GB. Why is that occuring?

Hi ,

Would it be an idea to post SPD dumps , to compare the different DDR3 sticks and to see why one will and other won't boot.
A rammon and thaiphoon burner dump will do i guess.

Some sticks seem to post right after a bios reset, but after a softpower cycle , when cmos settings are written post will hang in a bootloop....
So you are stuck with the default settings ....
But , is it possible to change these default setting in a bios image and store these in the eeprom ? After reset your settings ( the altered defaults )  will then be loaded instead.

Just an idea....
