*sigh* Guys it's not workin for me at all. Whenever I type that in (for me it's windows 7 and the E drive is my iPod so I have to put in D)
("C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe" -install D:)

It pops up saying I don't have write privilieges which is complete bull because I have only 1 account and that makes me =admin right? I;m sincerely pissed right now, cuz I got skyrim 2 days ago and haven;t been able to play it becuase of ****ing dumbass steam.

You've got a bigger issue as in you don't have complete admin rights to your computer. Try this  http://www.geekersmagazin...or-rights-in-windows7/

i installed it from disk and everything went well. i started the game from steam, the game window opens, adjusts recommended video settings, and then i pressed play. the window closes and nothing happens. nothing! no error messages, nothing. and then on steam it says played today 4 mins. the game never opens, it just vanishes.

any ideas?

I feel you man. I bought the BF3 Limited DVD and Origin appeared to be downloading it! I almost threw my newly built PC out the window lol. Turns out it was actually "downloading" from my DVD.

I just got back into gaming and I really don't like Steam or Origin. I miss the good old days.

Also this works, fire your steam required game in:
Close auto pop up window
Go to your DvD drive
Right click DvD drive
Then click -Install or run program from media-
Steam will fire up, it will tell you about your install -next-
Short cut options -next-
Installing from disk. Your on your way.
Sorry, but it seems i'm always last to arrive :)

I installed from the disc without any issues; no workaround needed.  I don't know the method the rest of you used to have it download the game, but for me it ran as intended.  I assume this problem was resolved awhile back and it installs properly from the disc now.

Re:Make Skyrim install from DVD and not from stupid Steam 2013/04/04 07:31:53 (permalink)
I will say now, I regret ever doing this...what happened?

Followed the steps exactly, and because I wanted to download a few mods to improve and edit the game.
Now, instead of the some 20 minutes the game took to download from steam before (even if I did have the physical CD), it's now taking twice as long with this method, and it probably doesn't help that the wifi is patchy in this place (I have to sit in the same room, right up close to it to get steam to even REALISE that I'm online).
I'm assuming I'm going to loose all the gameplay I did, luckily it wasn't a lot but having to restart does demotivate a person after a while.

I wish Steam just didn't exist, to be honest. It's made this whole installation milarky so much more unpleasant than it should/could have been.
Ridiculous.

Quite the unnecessary bump.

Not sure why you need to go through the trouble of NOT installing through Steam when installation through Steam literally takes one click.

Unfortunately the problem has not been solved, or at least not for win 7. I purchased the game some time ago and didn´t have the time to play yet... Until now! So I´m sure it is not a question of time.
If anybody knows a way to get around Steam and install it from the physical dvd instead (that is why I bought it in a store), please don´t hold out on me!
Thank you

Wow it's amazing that people difficulty with such simple tasks.
It's a wonder how these people manager to get dressed and perform other COMPLEX TASKS.

Here, I'll do a step by step guide on how to install a game via Steam.

Step 1: Click Install

-Done-

Wow that was tough! But if you try hard, you can pull it off!

Let me stop you right there... Do you seriously think I would ask for assistance if it was so simple?
Let me present you the ACTUAL task, and then you can give me a REAL solution, not this "STEP 1: CLICK INSTALL" crap.
If you are so smart as you pretend you are, then resolve this:
Having purchased an original (physical) dvd of the game I tried installing it. After typing the activation code into the requested field in the steam account, it cancels the installation saying "Sorry, but the following items are not available for purchase in this country. Your purchase has been cancelled." Which would be of course ridiculous.
Now, I have checked various forums, where apparently some people were trying to come up with an ACTUAL solution to this problem, apparently I was not the only one having it. Needless to say, none of them worked.
So... If your next answer is the solution to this problem, I salute you. If your next answer is an other insult, you are just an ass.
If you don´t answer to this at all, it shows how dumb you really are probably find dressing up a difficult task indeed.

Its not that simple for everyone, some people have limited internet and don't want to download the entire game when most of the data is on the disk itself.

Well I'm not sure where Skyrim is and isn't supported. I live in the US. Where do you live?
If you live in an unsupported region(and I'm just saying this, I don't know if there's such a thing) then there's your problem.

Is it the Legendary Edition or regular? If it's the Legendary, it COULD possibly be an issue with the DLC being region locked.

But I've never heard of that issue, it's just easier to buy stuff directly from Steam and not have to deal with the hassles of obsolete discs.

It IS that simple for everyone. Having a bandwith cap doesn't make clicking 'Install' any harder.

Now that he clarified his post, it's clear there's more to the issue than him just not knowing how to click install(Which, surprisingly, is too complex for some people!).

I know how this may sound to you, but there's two questions I wanted to ask:

1) Have you tried to install it using a different DVD player?

2) Have you tried a different game DVD? (Silly to buy it again I know. Not sure how much it costs now. If it was like only 10 bucks or something, I may have tried to see if it will work for the heck of it, but that's just me).

If there's any way this can still be done I would greatly appreciate any help. I've had the game for over a year now and haven't got to play it :(
