I have been folding with EVGA for just over a month now. Not very long. I would like to hear some history about the team from the members that have been folding with EVGA for years now. Probably are a lot of newbs that would like to learn the history also.
When did the team start folding?
Was EVGA always #1?
Any good stories, any bad?
Where does [H]ardOCP fit into EVGA's history? (because they have been gaining on us lately)
What hardware and OS's were used.
All info will be appriciated.

I read this forum every day and am proud to be folding with such a great team!
Thanks, desktopgeek

I can remember when 1 million points was a tremendous goal, and would lock you in the top 100. We made special badges to denote 1 million.  I can remember prizes and a trophy when we made #1, so no we were not always #1. I can also remember loosing chimp challenge, not the last one, but the one before we won. It wasn't pretty, but was what started me folding. The team posted all over the general section asking for help. I think a lot of us started then.
( I can now make in a month the points it took me my entire first year to make. ) which is approximately what you have made in three months. ( well 1 full and two partial)

I remember signing on mid-way through Year 3.  We had a promotion going for getting to #1, as we were chasing [H] at the time.

Good stories?  I remember my first Time Zone Challenge (the second one) that I sat there heckling everyone I could.  Also remember burning up an awful ton of equipment.  Had a few jury-rigs running, as well as trying some wild ideas that ended up disasterous.  At one point, I had a Socket 478 heatsink ziptied to a Socket 775 Prescott P4.

Hardware that we use primarily consists of high-power GPU's and a good blend of CPU's.

Hardware that I use primarily consists of legacy GPU's and an overload of CPU's barely able to handle uniprocessor units.

    I started in year 2 with a single 8800GT and made 6,242 points :p
    year 3 I made 342,179
    year 4 (to date) 1,482,172
When I started in year 2 I didn't even know what folding@home was and my 8800GT couldn't do much in the way of PPD. When I got my 570 I really go going (as seen in my PPD this year). I'm looking to buy another 570 (or 2) around Christmas when nvidia releases the new GPUs, pushing down the price of existing GPUs

I started out in Feb 2009,back then the team had about 1000 members in total and 600 active.
We were ranked somewhere around #20.
It took only a 10k ppd average to make the top 20.

Very cool. Thank you for posting those links Barbarossa.

Maybe they should be put as stickies in the folding section so more can see them.

Ha...how about that. I've looked at that post before, but I guess I missed it since they are listed under "Guides".

Thanks for the history and the links to the early forum threads.
    Interesting stuff.
According to the old threads the team was started in Feb. 2008
I bought my first computer in early 2003 when still a young 47 year old.
I built my third computer in Nov. 2009 (EVGA P55 Classified board with i7 870 cpu)
I first started folding with PC Perspective Folding Frogs, March of this year as trailwalker.
After about a month I switched teams to EVGA still folding as trailwalker.
Then, started over folding as desktopgeek after discovering I was missing out on the EVGA bucks program.
Now I'm doing over a million points a week. EVGA bucks are nice but not the reason I switched.
I wanted to be with a very active and competitive team. These forums are always active, informative and entertaining.
Looks like the next couple years here will be "very interesting".
    I like these guys too

EVGA is my main team always will be. Stats will prove that, over time.
However, I still like to fold one of my machines with team #734 occasionally, where I first started folding.
With just an smp2 client and a EVGA GTX 460 I can easily be in their "Top 20 Producers" list. In EOC stats.
    I like that.
Team 111065 is where I live and have got down to serious folding.
The fact that I can "contribute to scientific research" is a good feeling. I am happy to be able to do that.
However, my three biggest thrills about folding are:
    1) Having a "Folding Farm" running 100% on all cpu's and gpu's, 24/7/365 to the extent possible.
    2) Being on the "Top 20 Producers List" in the EOC stats on the "Team Summary" page for team 111065.
    3) POINTS! MILLIONS OF POINTS!! (hello my name is "desktopgeek" I am a points addict)

I really like these yellow faced guys too

Thank you. Thank very much, desktopgeek has left the building!

It's contributing your spare computer cycles to help in the research of folding proteins, all for finding cures and advancing drug research.

I personally started folding way back in 2001.  Joined team EVGA when I got my 560Ti.  It was a chore to fold in those days.  My old account only has a score of 385,175.  I can easily do that now in 3 hours with video cards.  It took me forever to get that with the hardware I had. Haha.
