So that Dolby Atmos issue that many 30 series cards had? Well, not my 3090 FTW3 Ultra that I still have. But my 4090 FE has it.

When changing browser tabs or alt tabbing, one to four times a day my Dolby Atmos output from my 4090 FE would cut out completely (or sometimes for 3 seconds and recovering), sometimes it would go all robotic/digitized, and sometimes it would double in audio and go robotic. Got my 3090 FTW3 in right now as the RMA is on the way, and it's working fine.

Man, I really miss EVGA tech support / customer support. Nvidia CS was garbage. Asking me to give them the same information that I gave in the initial support request ticket multiple times. It's like they legitimately didn't read what I wrote, and was almost parody at times.

FWIW, I condensed the almost 2 years of troubleshooting this issue and provided formatted paragraphs of the troubleshooting steps that I took - which included building a new PC and fresh windows 10/11 installs.

It only took 2 weeks of dealing with them to get the RMA approved, after providing multiple videos showing the result of the audio issue (and them not following through with their request for me to show them video of the 3090 FTW3 working fine, lol!).

Sigh.

We all miss you, EVGA.

Any idea how long the process is?

Give an update once you get your card back.

I wonder if you'll get one of those newer gimped 4090s - lower power limit

Not sure how long the RMA will take. It took 2 weeks on the dot for them to approve one.

It likely will be a voltage limited version that I heard newer 4090 FEs have (1.06V max instead of 1.1). But I'll take it if the audio doesn't mess up on me (really enjoying the 3090 FTW3 just working, even if it's not nearly as powerful).

I don't have a link. I did use Bing / reddit search to find other folks with the same issue that seemed primarily to affect the 30 series.

If you want, I could copy pasta a log of all that I did with troubleshooting?

So the replacement 4090 FE arrived today.

The box was small, but not snug. It came in that orangey-red bubble wrap over an ESD bag. Foam on top and bottom, and nothing on the sides.

    Well... guess what happened?

I'm SHOCKED! At least the rest of the card looks OK and not like hacked up garbage.

Replied to my original ticket with the unpacking video showing the damage and asked them if they wanted me to try and straighten it out, if they wanted to send me a new IO bracket, or if they are going to replace the replacement.

That is really some BS there!    A few extra seconds during packaging and problem never occurs. Assuming someone didn't send it like that to begin with.

Still waiting on RMA instructions from Nvidia's RMA department a day later (it was near instant last time the CS got back to me with the approval).

The cherry on top? I asked this question (names redacted):
    "Thank you. While I wait for that second RMA instruction set from the RMA department, I have a question;

Is it going to be an issue if I use the exact same box and packing materiel that the replacement came in? I ask because the lack of proper packaging apparently damaged the replacement."

and got this response (font emphasis mine):
    "Hello XXXXX,

    Thank you for your email.
You may use the same packaging material to return your defective Shield device.
We will send the replacement device in a separate package.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.

    Best Regards,
    XXXXX
    NVIDIA Customer Care"

Obviously, I've followed up with a question asking if they knew that this ticket is about a 4090 Founders Edition and not a Shield.

Sure doesn't instill a lot of confidence in Nvidia's RMA Dept.

Got a response back in the middle of the night - it was a "typo" and they have confirmed that it is indeed a 4090 Founders Edition that will be replaced. The RMA instructions were delivered shortly thereafter, and so I'm going to try round two and see if Nvidia's RMA department can deliver an undamaged GPU replacement.

    Sigh.

Maybe it's standard for prepaid labels, but when I checked the tracking number that the FedEx office (not drop off location, actual FedEx store) gave me, it shows 2.6 pounds and not the 6 that the package weighed when it came in (it should be ever so slightly heavier with the extra tape and 3 pages of paper added).

FedEx customer support stated that they don't even see that weight yet, so maybe it just needs to wend it's way through the system to get an updated weight? If not, I hope that office has good cameras, because the guy behind the desk asked if I worked for Nvidia - I said no, just returned a RMA that was delivered physically damaged.

Man, I really hope that it just needs to get further into the system and not the thing that I dread happened at the FedEx Print and Ship Center.

Edit - to put a bit more perspective on it, I did the same thing and checked my original card's RMA FedEx tracking number when I got home (my own box and packing material) and it was over 10 pounds using the same FedEx location. So, that's why I'm a bit freaked out.

If I recall, there was another person who had a similar experience getting their 4090 FE replacement with a bent bracket - that's why I filmed myself unpacking it. Nothing better than video evidence if a company is just trying to pass off a physically damaged card to someone else (if that is the case here - I still have the serial number, but no idea how to get a hold of that person. That serial number ends with 6766).

Today, in case of a repair, even with a warranty, I'm ready to send my card to an autonomous service instead of to the manufacturer.

I'm curious what your replacement looks like.

Update! All is well so far! The second replacement came in a box designed for four GPUs, and had padding on all sides! It was marked as a refurbished unit on the ESD bag, but looks brand spanking new.

Got it installed and will see if the problem lies with the 4090 architecture/drivers, because both my 3090 FTW3 Ultra and 3090 Ti FTW3 Ultra Hybrid had no issues with Dolby Atmos whilst I waited.

Out of the box clocks are quite a bit better than my original. Just bumping up the power/temp and voltage limit to max and it goes over 2820MHz on the core in my test bed, High on Life (finished it up on the 3090 Ti while I waited). The old one was in the 2600 range and only hit mid to low 2700 when adding a stable OC.

Popped a quick and dirty +150 +1000 OC and it almost hits 3GHz.... sheesh!

And no Dolby Atmos issues so far (it'll take a few days to be 100% certain, since the old card it was quite intermittent).
