Dang, I bought 2 SSC+ right when it came out in February and *just* bought backplates for them this week. I wonder if they will refund me.

My advice, call them or contact, send them an email and put a request in. Who knows they may just mail it to you. You'd be surprised.
I mailed them but they denied. I can send it back and reorder but not in mood for hassle of removing it from PC, packing it back, creating a return request, dropping to UPS, reordering one, waiting for next to come ... ; all for a $20 item. :)

This is pretty lame. I just purchased the EVGA FTW 04G-P4-2978-KR which is the same backplate as the SC 04G-P4-2974-KR. No love for the FTW series? These should of came with backplates already since most of the other competitors includes it for free!!

The 3975KR does not need a backplate, it does not droop, and if anything the backplate will lock in some heat

hmm, I was wondering if the back plate will help in reducing temp. for the 4 ram module at back? I understand its more for looks and rigidity but have seen people mentioning it.

I want one for my 970 SC. Where can I order one? I think it's BS that the backplate wasn't offered for free back to the launch of the 970 since EVGA openly admitted rushing the card to market before the backplate was available (read: it was needed due to structural weakness in the card, not "late to production", but whatever...I want one).

Well this is a fine "how do you do". When last I asked I was not given a straight answer and so I just went ahead and just bought the card (970 SSC) because it was HEAVILY suggested that it was a promotion that would never return.

^^ Well their policy is a little hard to understand for me. first batch of 970 came without backplate; once available they sent backplate for only those who bought the cards by a certain date(not sure why it was restricted based on date). Next they release the batch 2 of cards fixing the problems in batch one. But surprisingly again launch them without backplate; and then again come with this promotion.
So there are two pools of users for each type of card, some who falls in promotion some who does not. I would love to buy a card(or any other part) where its same for all Like MSI red color 970; no backplate, green color, with backplate. G1 with backplate; No confusions.
Not sue why EVGA had to do this way.
