You have to wonder how much the warranty claims on 30xx series cards have cost EVGA.

No more 10 year warranties, eh?

EVGA's great services are slowly getting chipped away, one by one.

Soon enough they'll be like every other company, with nothing that sets them far apart. Such a shame.

As someone who never buys extended warranties it doesn't really affect me. Most extended warranties are just a way for businesses to make extra money for nothing knowing full well the vast majority of people who buy these things will never actually need them.

Here in the forums we live in a microcosm, the vast majority of any brands cards have no issues but being a member of these forums we see more than the average share of people reporting issues than we would otherwise. Most people only come to forums to report problems, they usually don't come to report "all is well" they just keep gaming or doing whatever they bought their card for.

Having said that, the prices they are asking for these extended warranties is ridiculous and borderline insulting.

i've made a few warranty claims when an evga card burns out. Having a 10 year warranty allowed me to keep systems running without having to shell out unreasonable prices for a new card, I've even recommended evga to clients so they can have a guarantee they'll have a functioning card for years to come. It helps keep the cards going and not turn into e-waste when defects pop up costing the buyer even more money. The evga support and warranty was the thing that kept me coming back to evga instead of going to other manufacturers, I never overclock the cards. I can't tell you the amount of trash I got told by board partners to avoid fixing their own cards or admitting they screwed up on manufacturing. I find this news disappointing, I value longevity in hardware having 10 year warranty was a life saver I just hope 7 years would be enough but I've claimed warranty on the 9 year mark a couple times for clients to keep systems running.

This is horrible news, i'll have to think twice on getting a card in the future

I can't officially speak for EVGA but as all of us are aware prices for goods have shot up over the past 2 years. I believe the new extended warranty pricing has taken this into account.

If you like to upgrade your GPU every two to three years then you probably don't need the extended warranty. As a consumer that is your decision.

Extended warranties are useless if the company goes bankrupt.  It's still good value.

In my experience, EVGA honors their warranty far more... well... *honorably* than Asus, though.  I don't generally buy Asus products anymore after they refused to honor a couple of very clear-cut, open-and-shut warranty issues.  I've seen many, many people complaining about Asus trying to weasel their way out of honoring warranties, and when they do honor them, the often make you jump through as many hoops as humanly possible first.  EVGA on the other hand has built a reputation around their customer service, and EVGA GPU's are one of the few cases where I feel like buying an extended warranty is actually worthwhile.  It admittedly has been sad to see their warranties getting chipped away at over the years, though (shorter manufacturer warranties, extended warranties now becoming more expensive, etc).

I've never had an issue with a warranty claim with Asus.  They replaced my parts every single time, no questions asked.  They were just a lot slower than EVGA to do the actual replacement.

Gigabyte on the other hand is completely useless as far as their Warranty/RMA service goes in the U.S.  They were awful pre pandemic and got even worse after they got hit with ransomware.

I went to register my 3080 Ti FTW3 HC today and add a 10 year extended warranty (I was waiting for my new years bonus). It's now gone from $60 for a 10 year warranty to $240 for a 7 year warranty...... I don't recall seeing this price hike being announced anywhere in advance. I wanted to warranty this card to pass on to my kids when I upgrade. It's very hard to get good value out of used waterblocked cards on the used market.

Who holds a card for ten years?

There is no reason to buy something from EVGA again.

No kidding? Even if I do I'm only using it for low level tasks and with the understanding that if after 10 years it stops working I'll just go ahead and replace it with another old card.

I actually DO have several very old GPUs. Mostly just chilling in boxes with a bunch of other very old computer parts. I have used them for things, like when I set up a chia mining computer and I have NEVER had a GPU fail on me.

I might just be a very lucky person but I've never needed warranty coverage for anything outside the standard manufacturers warranty period. And generally if something stops working after 4-5 years I'd just take that as a reason to replace it with something newer and better.

I've had a 970 and a 1080 Ti and 3 AMD cards crap out on me. My kids are currently using a 750Ti in their build which is enough to get by. I gave my 1060 to my brother which is the only other card I've owned that hasn't died on me. My current card is the only one that has ever had an overclock on it.

I always bought the extended warranty for all of gpu's but never even used it as none of my cards even failed on me period. The oldest card I still have is the 780Ti Classified and still works.

Sad to see another change in warranty policies... shorter length & more $ ....... although I do agree with the warranties being based on card price.
Most everywhere , the extended warranties have been based on product initial cost  for quite sometime.

Believe it or not I was just viewing my equipment list this morning because I was going to buy the extended warranty.  When I saw the price I couldn't believe it, I thought I must be going crazy because I knew it wasn't that much when I bought the card a week or so ago.  So I come over to the forums and find out I'm not crazy.  Oh well, I was only going to purchase it because it was cheap, years of electronics experience has taught me that if it will run for 90 days, it'll probably run for 3 - 5 years with no trouble.  Of course if you over-clock, that equation goes out the window...  :)

Bummer to see the 10 year gone and the price increases are to be expected with everything going on associated to cost.

For those that wonder who needs a 10 year warranty?  It was for those that held on to their GPUs and for $60 it made sense.  Old GPUs I bet were brought back to life the last couple of years and finally gave it their all before calling it quits.  Depending what's in stock, it would still be considered a GPU upgrade in return for $60 or what have you.

It wasn’t announced anywhere in advance. EVGA has always listed that the extended warranty terms and conditions can change without notice, and after so many years without any changes, EVGA made a change to the extended warranty terms.

Pretty glad I bought a 5 year warranty before the price hike, now I'm thinking I should have bought the 10 year lol

Oof I have a few days left and was just about to purchase the extended warranty. Makes sense with the way everything else is going. Hopefully its more of keeping up with the market rather than them foreseeing these cards not fairing as well long term. Dang though at this rate you'll probably just be able to sell your bricked GPU for parts and recoup most of the MSRP costs lol

CraptacularOneAs someone who never buys extended warranties it doesn't really affect me. Most extended warranties are just a way for businesses to make extra money for nothing knowing full well the vast majority of people who buy these things will never actually need them.

I typically don't buy extended warranties on things either. I do buy them on these GPUs. I just had a warranty replacement fulfilled on a 1080ti FE that I purchased in 2017 based on a 5-year extended warranty. That extended warranty more than paid for itself. I bought a 10-year warranty on my 3080ti FTW3, and I have zero regrets. If there really is an issue long-term with the power delivery on this whole generation of cards, I have no doubt that EVGA will stand by the card, and for ten years.
Speaking of never needing to use it, I've been paying for car insurance for over 30 years and haven't had to file a claim against it yet. No regrets. The potentially ruinous personal liability that could have accrued to me if the feces had ever impacted the impeller was too great a risk not to be hedged against. I look at these warranties as a form of insurance policy. I paid $60 for a 10-year warranty on a GPU I paid ~$1400 for because in the event it goes south, I know I wouldn't be able to just easily fork out for a replacement, and it was worth $60 for me to know I wouldn't have to just go without it if it goes bad during it's conceivable lifespan.

I'm glad I logged in and bought that 10 year warranty when I did. Little did I know I'd have paid a lot more just one week later for a much shorter coverage period.

This is very disappointing. Their excellent warranty service is one the main reasons EVGA is my go-to for PSU's and GPU's.  Though I only purchased one extended warranty in past my intention was to do it for these much more expensive 30 series cards.  I missed the cut off date for one but still had two weeks left on my 3080 TI Hybrid.  Also shocked to see how much the price increased!  I use my GPU's for 3D network rendering so as long as an older card is support by OS and program it can still be useful.  But this outrageous cost now has me reconsidering and I will most likely not purchase the extended warranty and be more open to other vendors in the future.
