I have been trying to get Windows XP installed just for fun. I love messing around with operating systems and I have been wanting to try out Windows XP on a separate hard drive, but after all the setup files load and starts windows xp setup it gives a bios not ACPI compliant.
I even tried slipstream drivers and pressing F7 on text mode start to turn off ACPI mode and load the basic one with no success. One of the reasons I bought the x299 dark was to try windows XP :(
Any help would be appreciated.
I included an image of what the blue screen looks like in case you are wondering, it is not my screen shot.

What are you using as an drive? Has to be SATA and plugged into one of the legacy ports. If you are already doing that then 🤔

Switch to one of the other bios's that it shipped with, they should be 1.02 or 1.04 and before all of the specter patching

    yes
Just an educated guess on my part, that it may be needed for an old OS like XP

Honestly I don't know why they even bothered to mention XP compatibility, clearly it wasn't tested.

If it did or they had perhaps it was on an early bios - pre-release but with the round of bios updates for specter and melt down it had gotten dumped

Unfortunately this would be an issue with the Intel Processor not being able to support the older OS like XP as previously mentioned in the link provided above.

Hmm interesting they say it supports legacy is including windows do but don't specify the process or the hardware needed to do it.
    Thanks everyone for the help.

It's not an issue for Kaby Lake-X on X299.  Asus, Asrock and MSI all have X299 boards that can boot XP with ACPI support when running one.

I noticed if I press F7 when it tells me to press F6 and It bypasses the apci problem and I face a asmedia sata driver problem. I loaded the same asmedia sata driver in a vm and got the same crash when loading from sata, seems it thinks the drive is a scsi instead.
    correct me if I'm wrong.

It would be nice if legacy mode had a "IDE MODE" that would fix most of the issues I think cause I get the message in a vm with sata mode if I change to IDE mode is runs fine.

That would be nice, Asrock X299 OCF has that feature.

What I don't get is how they can brag about legacy mode "including windows xp" and not work at all, not even proper sata drivers or a sata to ide option.
This was one of the reasons I bought the motherboard other wise it's a great motherboard.
Crossing my finger for a bios update.

Is your XP OS 32bit or 64bit?
Maybe I missed it in your thread, but what CPU do you have?
Do you have "Secure Boot" disabled in the BIOS?  You'd need to...

Also, are you trying to install XP using MBR or GPT partitioned drive?  GPT won't work, or maybe you haven't even been able to get to that point?

I tried both 32 and 64 bit winxp installs even preinstalled as a vm in sata mode than move that over to the pc. Secure boot disabled never used it even with windows 10. Preformatted with mbr even like I said preinstalled with windows do from vm.

I was going to build EVGA X299 Dark based system just because they claimed legacy support of Win XP but nobody has been able to get in installed so far. Support could not clarify this situation. I still hope to see real evidences of the claimed legacy support.

So I got past the sata drive issue with a special asmedia driver and using a different acpi just having one last issue with Agp44.sys and I think windows xp will boot :)
Most if not all problems can be fixed with a bios update.
