Can a faulty bridge cause the pc to freeze, crash, reboot, black screen, even though SLI is not active?

The bridge is still detected, so I guess it could be possible. I’m not really sure.

I'm going to go back-and-forth with it , putting it back on , and taking it off - PC being off of course. When the bridge was on the computer froze , and then reset . Right now the bridge is not installed and so far it was idling normally and gaming was fine. I'm going to run more tests. I may conclude at the end that the flexible bridges may be the better route. Nevertheless all electronics do go out eventually. We'll see what happens

Hopefully it turns out to be an easy fix.

Wrk I can see back to my pc, from it being in sleep mode, and it came out of sleep mode and everything was functioning normally. Going to stick the SLI bridge back in and see what the outcome is. I went ahead and ordered a new evga psu because this one has 2 years on it, and I didn't like the idea of having only 2 cables for 2 GPUs; I want 4

It crashed with the SLI bridge taken out, actually it shut down completely. At first the frame rate dropped dramatically, then it shut down. So I'm back to square one. I took out the second gpu and took the power cable from that one and and combined both power cables into main gpu. Going to test with the main gpu for a while, with th second one taken out

Sounds like the video card, or cpu got too hot causing a shut down.

But it's strange because it has been idling fine, and earlier I was playing fallout 4 and fighting in vigorous areas (temps were
Fine) Then I decided to switch to planet coaster just to mess around an it on that. I went underground, and that is ehen the frame rates dropped, and then black screen, then PC shut down. I'll monitor the temps and see what happens. According to event viewer, "kernel-power - event ID 41"

Hopefully it's not the CPU. If it is, well, I still have my 3820k socket still.

Additional notes: after taking The second power plug from second video card and plugging that into the main gpu (so both plugs are into main gpu) i noticed increase in frame rate on fallout 4.

Temps never went above 47 on the CPU.

On day 2 with the second card removed and pc is functioning fine coming out of sleep mode. I'm testing within fallout 4 and metal gear solid 5. So far everything is going 100%. It's functioning rather more smoothly

I forgot that I already tried the second gpu, and it's working fine. I also tried it in the 3rd pcie slot (where the second card was) on its own rendering graphics. All is fine there as well. So the motherboard is fine, CPU is fine, and both GPUs are fine. im really thinking its the psu, one of the power plugs can't be providing full power to the gpu, as in it loses power to the gpu completely. And with the second power plug plugged into th gpu, its providing sufficient power. That's my theory.

Sajin I have to apologize. Pc shut down again, and I saw the CPU cooler (it's a corsair AIO, and the logo lights up when pc is on) corsair logo kept blinking a few times randomly. So I wiggled the power connector of the water pump and sure enough, it kept blinking spontaneously. I'm wondering if in fact while gaming, the loose connection was enough for the water pump not to turn on, causing over heating, which you mentioned earlier, "sounds like CPU is overheating". Now I'm going to continue to monitor it, and if I have to, off to by a new cooler. What's even more catchy, I checked the screws holding the CPU cooler on the CPU, and they were a little loose, and that might have been enough for the cooler to maintain the temps at 35 using, when they were at 25 idling. Couldnt figure it out till now. eikl update on later status.

Not sure if the evga psu is going to be needed,
But I'd rather have the one coming in than to keep using this one, because the evga psu will have 4 gpu power connector, this one only has 2. Thank god the computers have fail safes in case something goes wrong.

Well... It may have been the main harddrive with the OS. When I switched out power supplies and put the EVGA 850 in (awesome PSU btw), PC would not boot - at all, period; it acted like it wanted to boot, all lights flashed, but it would not boot. When I unplugged the main harddrive from PSU, PC booted up fine; alas, without an OS installed. I plugged harddrive back in, and it would not boot. Very strange... so ordered 256gb SSD (prior was an Intel 160gb; 2nd one that failed from Intel - no more) from Samsung; and this is blazing fast. I'm really impressed. PC is back up and running. Now to focus on 1080TI, but that will come at a later date.

It has a warranty, see if you can get it replaced. Flat rate packages are cheap and you could send it in for a few dollars to get it replaced.
